Just hopped out of my car at sainsbury's. My door literally kissed the neighbouring car. Our leapt a woman with a stream of abuse before she'd even checked damage. (There was none). I've seen this happen to other people before and always thought it an overreaction.
In fact it's really rattled me. AIBU to think she's ruined my day and hers?

She's only ruined your day if you let her.

Tessasanderson · 17/11/2022 09:57

YABU. You deserved it.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 17/11/2022 10:02

So you bashed a woman’s car with your own car door and can’t understand why she’s annoyed and checked for damage?

faffadoodledo · 17/11/2022 10:56

She didn't check for damage. She shouted and had a go then had a look. It wasn't damaged

People are irrational and bonkers about their cars, it's ridiculous behaviour

singleone · 17/11/2022 11:03

YABU you fully admit your door made contact with hers, it doesn't have to have been particularly forceful to cause damage. Be more careful in future

notstoppingnow · 17/11/2022 11:10

Even the slightest tap can cause paint chips sometimes.
Had I been her, I would have checked the car first, but YABU to not anticipate a person reacting like that without checking first.
I always try to be ultra careful when opening the door next to another car, predominantly to protect mine, so a tip for you is to curl your hand round your door as you open it slowly, then if the door is going to touch the next car, it'll be your hand that makes contact first.

faffadoodledo · 17/11/2022 11:25

I'd have absolutely held up my hand if I'd damaged it. But we didn't get a chance to check before BOOM.
Hey ho.
