Asking for advice for a friend
We are in Wales, and the laws for landlords and tenants are changing in December (finally!) to make things fairer on tenants.
One of those changes will be that you can remove yourself from a joint tenancy without it affecting the other tenant(s), so they won't have to start a new contract etc.
My friend has been trying to move out of her and her exs rented place for months and months, he won't leave, and they have quite a lot of rent arrears due to him point blank refusing to get a job or pay for anything. They are on a joint tenancy that is now rolling from month to month.
Does anyone know if, come December, she can email her landlord saying she's removing herself from the tenancy and to ask for a bill of her half of the rent arrears?
Or will it be more complicated than that? It's really difficult to find any information online regarding this as it's quite a specific problem.
Thanks in advance.
