Clean beans v the filthy's

forreal99 · 16/11/2022 22:22

Ok....

Two groups of friends, independent of each other, differing opinions:

Set one (let's call them 'the filthy's')
Belief: Feet are 'self-washing' ie by virtue of just standing in the shower, feet are washed (self cleaned) by the bubbles from shower gel flowing over and around the feet (no interaction required)

Set two - (and we'll call them 'the clean beans')
Belief: feet (and soles of feet and nails) need active washing/cleaning, not just passive bubbles flowing over the top and around

YANBU the clean beans
YABU the filthy's

The filthies not the filthy's

Ladybyrd · 16/11/2022 22:24

Your friends the filthies have clearly never spent time in the army.

No, feet are not self-cleaning.

Bucketheadbucketbum · 16/11/2022 22:24

Depends on what you've done with your feet that day!

ShirleyPhallus · 16/11/2022 22:24

The twee little names are more nauseating than dirty feet

Im somewhere in the middle. Wash them less regularly than armpits but more than forearms.

SheWoreYellow · 16/11/2022 22:25

Hm, I think toes can be quite stuck together, so mine get a quick rub between them. That’s all though, so I guess I’m halfway between.

It's my post, I'll decide 😎

What are you doing that your feet need so much active scrubbing every day?

Ladybyrd · 16/11/2022 22:27

Do you catch the filthies picking crud from between their toes?

the word 'nauseating' to me is more nauseating than the 'twee names' so yeah each to their own 🤗

I wash mine because it just feels like the right thing to do. I think that being stood under clean running water and covered in soap/shower gel would be sufficient though.

I think you've got to look to the evidence. Has anyone in the non-feet washing group suffered an infection or lost a foot/toe to mould or something? Do they smell? If not, then the evidence suggests they're right doesn't it?

Oysterbabe · 16/11/2022 22:28

I'm with the filthy's, unless I have reason to think they are particularly dirty.

Greengr · 16/11/2022 22:29

This

'Set one (let's call them 'the filthy's')

But depends on what your feet go through !

OnlyFannys · 16/11/2022 22:30

I'm not really arsed about how clean my feet are it's not like I use them to eat my dinner so I just let the shower do the work.

JackTorrance · 16/11/2022 22:31

I'd only actively wash them if I'd bee barefoot outdoors or maybe in flip flops somewhere dusty.
Otherwise it's just whatever water gets to them in the shower.
They never smell or look dirty on the sole.

Oysterbabe · 16/11/2022 22:28

But why? Don't you actively wash other parts?

Beginningless · 16/11/2022 22:32

I thought you were referring to the wider MN phenomenon of competitive cleanliness, when I saw your OP. But I’m definitely a filthy much of the time, they’ve had lots of soap and water on them, and get rubbed between toes when being dried. My feet don’t generally smell bad. If I’ve been particularly sweaty, smelly or have stepped in something dirty, they get more ‘interaction’ as required, but day to day I have other shit to do.

Nugg · 16/11/2022 22:33

In summer time / which is approximately March till November to me - I actively scrub my feet in the shower and bath because they will get dirty because I wear flip-flops, but outside of this they just get washed with the bubbles!

EmmiJay · 16/11/2022 22:39

I wash my feet every single shower, and pumice once or twice a week...😐

Dragonskin · 16/11/2022 22:46

I probably clean them once every 5/6 washes, and in between just let the water and soap run over them. But then I also don't really wash my legs/arms etc every time either.

Really pits, under boobs, belly button, genitals/inner thighs and bum are the only things that get a good old scrub every single time (the tik Tok thing of people not washing their bum crack is 🤢)

GrumpyPanda · 16/11/2022 22:48

Prepare to be shocked but I don't use shower gel at all 90 percent of time. Gentle cleansing for the face, and a cold shower in the evening for the rest of me. Gets off sweat and moderate grime just fine.

I guess that makes me superfilthy by your criteria?

Undergreen · 16/11/2022 22:51

Oh wow, I’m always gross by mumsnet standards, but this is something I can be smug about for once!

Yes of course I wash my feet in every shower. Lather up and wash them, same as armpits or anywhere else. I can’t believe that some people don’t? They’re enclosed in socks/shoes half the day and are quite a hot/sweaty body part? Urgh gross

ARoastPotato · 16/11/2022 22:52

EmmiJay · 16/11/2022 22:39

yes, me too. It would feel weird for me to shower and not clean my feet.

This thread reminds me of the time my twitter timeline was full of people saying they didn’t wash their legs because the soap ran down their legs.

RedSoloCup · 16/11/2022 23:03

Literally never considered this.

I would say I'm v clean but I only apply shower gel to arm pits and a tiny bit to privates and let the rest wash itself. 🤷‍♀️

azimuth299 · 16/11/2022 23:06

I think somewhere in between. Obviously they're not self cleaning but mine at least don't require actual manual scrubbing unless they've got properly dirty, like wearing flip flops or something. They are in socks for most of my waking life, so standing in the shower removes any visible dirt.

Slanty · 16/11/2022 23:09

After surgery last year, my ability to move my neck and head was severely impacted and showering was a bit hit and miss below thigh level.

I learned that feet definitely need to be actively washed in the shower. They fare better in the bath.
