To be really annoyed at this

I know this is just one of those things, and it’s nobody’s fault, but it’s so frustrating!

I was paying for something big over the Internet (just under a grand- it was for an insurance policy) and I got as far as putting in the card details and got to the final page and it said there had been a problem processing it and it hadn’t gone through, but straight away the money was out of my account. That was several days ago and it’s still not fixed. The insurance policy wasn’t made (I’ve called and checked) and the money has come out of my account in the sense that it’s off my total, but it still says ‘pending’. I went to the bank and they said there’s absolutely nothing they can do to rectify the pending payment and it will fix itself naturally and go back on my account but could take over a week.

I totally understand these things just happen and it’s nobody’s fault but I’m so frustrated by it. I absolutely need that money to take out another insurance policy, but I can’t because it could take a week or so to come back into my account. What if someone had to pay rent, or food, or heating with that money?!

they were quick enough to take the money and yet I have to wait a week for it go back in (I know that is simplified and it’s not possible for it to go back in straight away) but I sort of feel annoyed that the money was taken out in seconds and because of a problem on their website I’ll have to wait a week for a grand to go back in

I prefer to pay for these things over the phone but they don’t offer it and it’s only online, so frustrating.

I know I sound petty and it’s just one of those things but ahh I’m so annoyed!

YANBU to be annoyed, but I don't think it's something your bank has any control over. The people you were buying from, however, should be able to arrange for the 'hold' on the money to be dropped.

Yep I totally agree with you! the bank can’t do anything but unfortunately the insurance company said they can’t either- technically the policy wasn’t made so it’s just a system error and apparently they can’t do anything! Arghh I know the money will go back on my account but it’s so frustrating and it would be awful if it meant someone couldn’t pay for rent or food or heating or something essential because of something like this 😢

Your bank absolutely can remove the 'hold' if you can provide them with the authorisation code for the transaction. Which the insurance company should be able to give you because even if it's not getting processed due to their technical error they are still who the pending transaction is held by and they should be able to see this on their systems.

Hope you can get it sorted. What a pain!
