I need some advice please!!
I’m just out a domestic abuse relationship he physically abused me and my son, my son seen him stab his self with a knife, this was 3 months ago I left him for it all , my 5 year old son is now picking up knifes n trying to stab his self n me he’s also got behavior problems, I grabbed it of him n he cut me n then he felt guilty about it. But he still continues to try hit me with it whenever I give him into trouble or he doesn’t get his own way and he always uses “my dad done it” this breaks my heart I’ve hid all the knifes but now he will take out potato peelers or anything he can find 😢 I’m so lost on what to do I’ve sat down n had a chat with him but he’s not taken it in at all

What professional help are you both getting?

Social services put me in touch with our local children's centre and we had a family worker who was absolutely brilliant. We saw her weekly for 8 months.

In school the safeguarding officer referred him to a charity who work in schools with children of domestic violence. It was a long wait due to covid (2 years) but after these sessions ended they recommended ongoing weekly sessions with the school inclusion team.

I also did the Solihull parenting course which was useful at the time due to understanding children's emotions and how they develop.
Give firm boundaries and show love. Discuss his worries. Be clear about what behaviour is and isnt acceptable. if he asks questions don't lie but tell in a child and age appropriate way.

Speak to your local DV support charity or school safeguarding officer or even GP.
