Did you get your old body back after pregnancy?

My wedding was this time last year - we looked through our wedding pics last night and I feel like I look like a different person.

Currently pregnant and feeling so hefty (still have 3 months to go).

I know it won’t be immediately and I will have to work hard but I just want to feel comfortable and confident in my own skin again and get back into exercise. Have a low placenta so all I can do atm is walk.

Yes. Ish. My hips are actually a bit wider - they move when you are pregnant and mine didn't go fully back so the bones themselves are actually wider.

The rest of me pinged back and I was in my old pre pregnancy jeans a few weeks after the birth.

It helped that I went back to work quickly (financial pressures) so I was running around like a mad thing (and probably not eating enough !).

Enjoy the wedding Smile

I did with little issue however my body shape changed post menopause. I only weigh probably 8 pounds more but my waist is thicker and my boobs are two cup sizes bigger. I hate having D cups now.

I'm post menopause now too and my boobs are huge! What's all that about ?

I've just done Fast800 and lost 3 kilos but my norks are still mahoosive (DH is delighted 😁)

FatFilledTrottyPuss · 16/11/2022 08:51

I’m curvier now than pre children but to be honest I don’t mind that. I’ve got a new found respect and admiration for my body anyway, I grew and fed to brand new humans with it and and I find that so incredible 🤯🥰

AliceS1994 · 16/11/2022 08:57

I was the same weight again by 3/4 months pp. No loose skin on tummy but it is generally rounder than before and I have LOTS of stretch marks. Boobs are much saggier. Unfortunately that's the price you pay... I wouldn't change it. Most of the time I feel good and look basically like I did before with the help of a push up bra and spanx

Maybebabyno2 · 16/11/2022 09:10

I lost 10stone after my first which has left me with loads of loose skin, I am now pregnant again so interested to see how my body changes with this one. Once this baby is here, I'm not planning on any more so have been saving for a much needed tummy tuck.

HeyHeyHeyyyyy · 16/11/2022 09:17

Yes but not my mental health. True answer.

SallyWD · 16/11/2022 09:20

After my first child I couldn't lose the last half a stone. I ate a lot because I was breastfeeding. Then I was pregnant when my daughter was 18 months and put on more weight with the second pregnancy. Afterwards I was just over a stone heavier than my pre-pregnancy weight. I know it's not a huge amount but I don't carry weight well and I looked awful (in my opinion). I decided I'd had enough and wanted to get back to my old self. I started watching what I ate whilst breastfeeding. Don't get me wrong - I didn't diet. You must never diet during breastfeeding! I was just sensible. I ate enough calories and very nutritious food but I didn't eat to excess. I didn't use breast feeding as an excuse to eat several cakes day (as I had the first time around). By the time my second child was one I wad back to my pre-pregnancy weight and felt much better. My body looks the same as before (no stretch marks and my breasts look no different). I do still have the pregnancy induced varicose veins though!

Ohhmydays · 16/11/2022 10:16

Hips got slightly wider with the 1st but was still wearing my jeans through out n lost my belly as soon as my water broke but was squishy for a few weeks boobs only went up a cup size nearer the end. 2nd my boobs went massive n sore(that’s how I figured I was pregnant)couldn’t wear my jeans after 6months, belly was bk to normal after 3/4weeks, boobs went slightly south. 3rd omg 😱 couldn’t fit in any of my clothes by 10weeks boobs went bigger, butt got bigger and so did my thighs. Probably didn’t help I tore tendons and ligaments in my stomach(didn’t know that was even a thing) so was less active n face got chubbier 2 had a bit of a double chin. 6months later I have only just been able to button my jeans again. And boobs have been left like empty bags. I Am not fussed about how my shape is, I haven’t actively seeked to get back in shape we eat take aways twice a week and I live on chocolate and crisps lol everyones bodies are different, wither you snap back or not you should still be proud as you have grew a life inside your body for 9months

Cuppasoupmonster · 16/11/2022 10:19

I much prefer my post baby body! I was too thin before, but a nice rounded slim after with a bigger bum. Boobs took a while to regain volume but they did, they felt a bit ‘empty’ for a while. It probably helped I was in my mid 20s. Nearly 20 weeks with number 2 now.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 16/11/2022 10:21

First time kind of. I got back to size 12 but I did couch25k and lots of walking etc although I think my boobs were bigger but after second I am just bigger overall. I am losing weight but I think my whole torso seems just wider. Feet are bigger

Makeitwork44 · 16/11/2022 10:51

Only after a tummy tuck and breast lift!

workshy46 · 16/11/2022 11:01

Yes, I have a v v young body (not face mind you) . Tight skin - 23/24 inch waist and I had big babies too
I think what makes a huge difference is the amount of weight you put on. I didn't put on more than 2 stone with them - if you put on 3/4 stone that is a huge inflation and it is hard for skin to snap back after that
I also used Clarins tonic throughout and I don't know one person who got stretchmarks after using it and I had some on my hips from puberty so not immune from them at all

PorridgePowered · 16/11/2022 11:04

My son is now 3m. My body is less different than I thought it would be. I have a bit extra round my middle and my fitness is still lower, but I think I am basically the same size. I assumed I would look different after a baby, and honestly I don't mind it. Still working on the fitness though!

oldwhyno · 16/11/2022 11:05

In all honesty, no I never did, and it was really all downhill afterwards. It got worse with each child as well. Fat round the middle and saggy boobs.

I'm sure that's the same for a lot of dad's. My wife on the other hand looks fabulous these days.

wannarunfromitall · 16/11/2022 11:17

Yes, my body pretty much went back to how it was, took prob 9 months but without too much work. 3 babies. 60kg ish, size 10.

Perimenopause hitting now though and my waist is now thick and boobs bigger, and my usual reining it in a bit for a few days after eating too much doesn't work any more, I look at a biscuit and put on 4 pounds. Still size 10 but I hate my flabby waist. Boobs good though.

youcantry · 16/11/2022 11:23

Yes but breasts sadly never returned to pre pregnancy pertness. 3mths with DD to be back to pre pregnancy weight and build but I had put on weight on my hips and thighs that I had to exercise to shift.
Back to normal and in pre pregnancy clothes 3 weeks after my DS with no effort (I know this as it was my daughters birthday 3 wks after my son was born and We had a party so I have the photos and remember being chuffed that I could wear one of my favourite dresses to her party) but I carried him completely out front, my hips and thighs didn't change at all and I went into labour with my pre pregnancy skinny jeans on (with a stretchy thing holding the zip together).
Weird as my son was 2 pound heavier than my daughter.
Breast fed both for 3mths.
No stretch marks but is this a genetic thing as my mum and sister didn't get stretch marks either?

Greenginghamdress · 16/11/2022 11:53

I've only given birth once, but yes, after a few years.
In fact, by using myfitnesspal and upping exercise I actually weighed less after I had DD (I couldn't be bothered when she was very little, I mean 3 years post partum).
I've let that slip now a bit now but by weight is the same as it was 6 years ago.

I'd recommend bio oil for your bump! I used everyday and managed not to get any stretch marks.

colourfula · 16/11/2022 11:57

No. No I did not. Rather resentful tbh. Dd now 9. Stretch marks all over my body. I never ever got hungry before having dd since her I've had insatiable appetite that I have to ru wry hard to control. Became over weight from being underweight in pregnancy and stayed firmly in overweight category but worse, I really have to try hard to stay the same weight even the overweight one. Never ever had issues with weight before. Boobs are nice and floppy and have a wonderful flabby pouch round my belly that will never go away even if I lose the weight.
Hate hate hate my body! Never hated it before. Dd worth it though 🤣

TheOrigRights · 16/11/2022 11:59

According to dsis & dfriends, it is the second baby that does the irreparable damage to shape.

I hope this thread has gone some way to show that this is not the case.
It makes sense that the more children you have, the more pregnancy will impact your body, but having a second baby does not mean irreparable damage to your shape.

I'm quite surprised to read how many of your have a wider rib cage. I knew it happened, but not for so many women. Mine is just the same (2 pregnancies). I am tall and had babies (and bumps) on the smaller side. In fact nothing grew that didn't go back. My sister's feet are massive after her 3!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 16/11/2022 12:03

Yes but I was youngish (23) and have only had one child.

StressedToTheMaxxx · 16/11/2022 12:34

TheCatWithGreenEyes · 15/11/2022 21:44

Yes it cost me 12k though Grin

What did you get done? Did your stomach look good after it? I'm thinking of getting a tummy tuck but have been umming and ahhing over it for ages.

roarfeckingroarr · 16/11/2022 12:42

I'm another one with a wider rib cage. The rib pain during both pregnancies has been something else because my frame just wasn't quite big enough for pregnancy as it was.

oneofthegrayfolk · 16/11/2022 12:45

Destroyed my breasts! Smaller and just no weight or texture to them. I was slim pre pg but ended up slimmer. I’d like to put the on I/2 to a stone of weight.

LifeWithStars · 16/11/2022 12:53

With my first baby, I was back to my pre pregnancy weight and clothes within a month. I wasn’t back to exercising and wasn’t thinking about my weight, it just happened.

With my second baby, a couple of months after I was still about 10lbs heavier than pre pregnancy. It took me about 6 months to lose it and fit back in all my old clothes. I don’t think my shape has changed.

CoalCraft · 16/11/2022 13:17

Both times I was back to my original shape and comfy in my jeans before six weeks. The only sign I've ever been pregnant is the black line from tummy button down, which I'm not sure will ever go.

Oh and the haemorrhoids, but I can't say that those are often visible.
