Hotel and Food Waste

Went to a hotel recently and at breakfast time people were saying to the waiter/waitress the things they didnt want with the full breakfast for example no mushrooms please or no sausage etc.

It became apparent that the staff didnt want to cope with the requests and just bought out the plate with everything on it and were telling people to leave what they didnt want?

Surely this is a massive food waste issue? Would you expect them to only give people what they have asked for on the plate?

Oh that's crappy service. I'd be annoyed if bean juice was all over my egg for example. Although to be honest it must drive the waiting staff mad

Poor service. A breakfast menu isn't extensive and a few changes should be easy to accommodate.

I would expect it, some might be dietary requirements. There's a massive problem with food wastage in hotels, but not only. My FIL works for one of the universities in England, and he saw staff throwing away glass water bottles (unopened) after staff&students party 🤐 I just couldn't get over it why it's so badly planned, and why so much food goes to the bin, when some people go hungry. And why would you throw away unopened water bottles. There's no risk of contamination.

Married to a chef. He would be furious if the waiting on staff took plates of full breakfasts out to people who didn’t want it, it would affect his gross profit.

We did once stay in a dire hotel that told me to ‘just leave what I didn’t want’. I’m vegetarian, they seemed baffled that I wasn’t happy to eat my toast, beans and egg with sausage and bacon sat on my plate!

If I'm paying to order breakfast I want what I order. Any sniff of bean juice or egg or black pudding or tomato on my plate I wouldn't eat and would refuse to pay. Yes I'm fussy but I'm paying for the privilege!

I hate mushrooms and I absolutely do not want them on my plate. I'd be very unhappy to have mushroom taste on anything. Wastage is bad enough but shitty customer service annoys the shit out of me too.

Some people's religion don't allow them to eat certain things.

Can't imagine it would go down to well if you plonked it on their plate and said don't eat it.

Sounds like they couldn't be bothered to take all the individual orders and take note.

Very poor service. No beans is not a tough request for the kitchen to deal with.
