Do you pay attention to your neighbours parcels/take aways

I do get a lot of parcels delivered as I don't drive and often they are split into multiple orders. But nothing crazy like daily orders etc. I get my shopping delivered too.

Do neighbours pay attention to this?

I rarely ever get take aways but a neighbour commented on me getting one

I do have a few neighbours in the street who don't work and seem to watch the street slot

Im currently renovating, builders in and out, the front door etc, and 3 times , 3 separate neighbours have just walked straight in

‘Because they wanted to know who was moving in ….

‘Wanted to know where the previous tenants went’

‘Wanted to see what we were doing’

I find it VERY odd

Also had a neighbour say that they were going to call the council because we were banging out the kitchen and bathroom, between the hours of 10am-4pm
He was upset because he worked nights and ‘suggested’ we do the work at night
He couldnt understand that the whole street ‘may’ have a problem with that

People are very weird !

CherryLongIsland · 15/11/2022 16:48

Not really, although I did notice the house next door to DC's primary school had a McDonald's delivered every morning last week, each time the driver happened to be there as I was passing on the way there or the way back.

NortieTortie · 15/11/2022 16:49

Takeaways no, amazon yes as my neighbours order every other day and never answer their door.

I always think someone's hammering down our door! Dh is always taking in their parcels too.

xogossipgirlxo · 15/11/2022 16:49

No, never. We had one day though 3 vans parked on the street for a few hours with drivers inside. My husband went and asked what's going on (he was intrigued, not in a rude way), they said they're recording the episode of some tv show in one of neighbour's houses, but didn't want to tell which one 🤐

Squeezedsquash · 15/11/2022 16:51

Not gonna lie, when the late teenaged girls next door were home alone for a few weeks, presumably with Daddy’s credit card, and didn’t bother to answer the door in the mornings (which meant we got all their parcels) until the Burger King delivery turned up at lunchtime, I judged.

silently though.

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 15/11/2022 16:51

upgrade to a ring doorbell or similar so you can use it as an intercom and send deliveries away?

Already done. They always stand well back from the door so can't hear us properly, or in the nicest possible way have poor English and don't grasp what's being said until we answer the door and do a lot of pointing and gesticulating.
We have watched deliveries going cold on the doorstep from afar 😂

this freaks me out, never thought that some people 'watch' like that. Creepy - how do people not get bored of analysing their neighbours deliveries 😆😆

I don't obsessively watch my neighbours but as it's a terraced street if you're in the front room you can't help but see what's going on outside. And you can't help but notice when one house gets three food deliveries a day and one house has random dodgy geezers nipping in for long enough to hand over some money and get some drugs in return.

So I'm not watching as such it's just that the action is literally happening on my doorstep. I suppose i could close the curtains but I'd still hear the doors being knocked constantly.

earsup · 15/11/2022 16:54

I am always taking in parcels for the young yuppie type neighbours...they all plead poverty but seem to buy mountains of stuff and often on holidays...i find them annoying and sometimes now refuse to take parcels in....

AliceMcK · 15/11/2022 16:54

I know far more about my neighbours deliveries than I should for several reasons:

1 Sometimes it sounds like our door is being knocked on if we are at the back of the house so we inadvertently open our door.
2 We take in lots of deliveries, the Dad works from home and gets lots of deliveries, 2 early 20s daughters get a lot of asos deliveries
3 We have bay windows so see deliveries arriving
4 sometimes drivers will knock on both doors at once to see who ever answers first
5 Our gate blew off in a storm and we’ve not replaced it so people walk up our path and step over our joint flower bed as they are to lazy to open the neighbours gate.
6 We share a right of way at the back of the house, large parcels (I’m talking can’t come through front door) have to go past my garden to get to neighbours work-shed.

In 7 years I don’t think they have ever had a take away though.

PrincessJanet · 15/11/2022 16:56

Yes, I've wfh for over 10 years. Next door but two, she has an online vintage shop or something so they get lots of parcels. (She also goes to the post office with parcels mid morning).
Our new neighbours, a young couple with twin babies, get loads of takeways. I didn't even realise you could get breakfast delivered until they moved in.

I notice these things but not enough to mention them to anyone else.

Matilda1981 · 15/11/2022 16:57

We don’t have any neighbours but my husband often comments on the amount of parcels I get 🤣

I go through their recycling box to see what they had.

Me too. Then I sit in their living room licking the big and staring at them.

newfence · 15/11/2022 17:00

I am 100% the person who gets everything that I possibly can delivered - I have no shame Grin

Box, even.

Ponderingwindow · 15/11/2022 17:02

Only in that I find it amusing that most days the Amazon trucks seems to stop at every other house. Some days I am driving in and there are 3 of them pulling in to do deliveries just to our little enclave. other delivery services are similar. We are an extremely high delivery neighborhood for parcels, takeaways, and groceries.

user627494927 · 15/11/2022 17:11

Not on purpose. My front window is quite big and my sofa is set to the side of it looking out and naturally I look up when seeing people walking past as a reaction. I see my next door neighbour getting quite a few parcels/takeaways because of it.

avocadotofu · 15/11/2022 17:12

Absolutely not!

Manekinek0 · 15/11/2022 17:21

No. I did once see our neighbour getting a takeaway whilst taking some rubbish out and felt a little jealous. I then ordered one too.

Essexgirlupnorth · 15/11/2022 17:22

Did a bit during lockdown as was working in our front room which is next to our adjoining neighbors front door and they often thought it was my front door.

Wanttomakemincepies · 16/11/2022 12:00

I am just about aware I have neighbours.

Dotjones · 16/11/2022 12:16

Yes I pay attention to the number of deliveries my neighbours get, especially the number of takeaways. I don't see why they should be bothered about this because it's not like they know I'm keeping track. My old neighbours opposite used to have three or four deliveries from Amazon, Parcel Force etc every day - they very rarely went out though so I guess did literally all their shopping online.

What I've noticed is that a certain type of person lives in certain types of property. The house opposite is one of the few that hasn't been converted into flats - whoever lives there ALWAYS gets parcels daily, often multiple times per day. The people who live in the building next door, converted to flats, always have at least two or three heavy smokers. And whoever is in the housing association flat directly above me always has lots of takeaways. Tenants come and go, but the new ones always have the same kinds of habits as their predecessors.

Standard 🤣

America12 · 16/11/2022 12:19

No , how strange.

Rewis · 16/11/2022 12:21

I do notice. My desk is by the window and I do look up if I'm there and a car pulls over. But I don't comment anything or really think anything about it.
