Do you pay attention to your neighbours parcels/take aways

twoso · 15/11/2022 15:45

I do get a lot of parcels delivered as I don't drive and often they are split into multiple orders. But nothing crazy like daily orders etc. I get my shopping delivered too.

Do neighbours pay attention to this?

I rarely ever get take aways but a neighbour commented on me getting one

I do have a few neighbours in the street who don't work and seem to watch the street slot

Well, I definitely couldn't care less. I work from home so I am home all day but take no notice of regular couriers or the postman. I might notice if a big truck with a sofa or something pulled up while I happened to be near a window, but I wouldn't be "taking note". Certainly some people do spend their lives watching their neighbours though!

Fairislefandango · 15/11/2022 16:08

Oh and our constant deliveries are not a sign of financial issues or compulsive spending Grin. They are a sign of the fact that we live in a little village and don't have time to go shopping!

purplecorkheart · 15/11/2022 16:10

I take no notice unless it is one neighbour who travels abroad a lot to a sick family member. I tend to keep and eye out if there is a delivery to his house if he is away as I keep an eye on his house when he is away. Other than that I could not tell you which neighbours get deliveries or not.

LexMitior · 15/11/2022 16:12

@TomTraubertsBlues - that's the postie for you. But I think there is gem of truth in it for some. Compulsive shopping and debt is definitely a thing! You only have to look at some of the posts here to see people with debt that was basically spent on small things, which gets hidden from their partners.

It's not everyone- I doubt when I get a delivery of a bag of sand people purse their lips and think I'm living the good life. I've got building work...

offyoufucketyfuck · 15/11/2022 16:12

Who I don't. But I have a neighbour who does this to everyone.

TheScenicWay · 15/11/2022 16:16

Neighbours like that are so annoying.
Most people have more important things to do.

JanetSally · 15/11/2022 16:16

TomTraubertsBlues · 15/11/2022 16:03

No, because I have a life!

Are these neighbours retired by any chance?

Because all retired people have nothing better to do than stand at the window watching delivery vans.

twoso · 15/11/2022 16:18

@TheScenicWay exactly I pay so little attention to what my neighbours get up to

Where I used to live we used to joke about the number of takeaways they had delivered, a minimum of 5 a week evenings plus daytime too

mondaytosunday · 15/11/2022 16:20

I don't notice unless I'm out with the dogs. But some people do - so what? If their life is that boring they have to watch the street for entertainment that's their problem.

stuntbubbles · 15/11/2022 16:25

The only neighbour delivery I’ve ever noticed is when mine were out when their kitchen was delivered and the delivery men wanted to stack it all in my 400 sq ft flat and have me sign for it.

OP, if nosy neighbours are going to be nosy, I’d have fun with it. Put your wheelie bin out a day early. Get a friend to send you loads of empty boxes of increasing sizes over the course of a month, in comedy shapes too. Answer the door in a clown costume.

Season0fTheWitch · 15/11/2022 16:31

Our old next door neighbour messaged DH to say when I've had a parcel arrive and when I'm leaving/returning to the house. He'd just sit in the window all day watching and would be open mouthed if he saw us getting a takeout delivered

Season0fTheWitch · 15/11/2022 16:32

Excuse my grammar I'm holding a baby 😬

FridayNightIsWineNight · 15/11/2022 16:34

The only time I've ever been remotely interested was when a delivery driver (in a normal unmarked car) pulled into our driveway and set off our blink cameras. Other than that - I never question deliveries.

Boiledbeetle · 15/11/2022 16:34

Well the house with my number and similar street name have way way too many takeaways. And that's just based on the ones that the drivers try to deliver to my house!

The house across the road from me also appears not to have a working kitchen as they have breakfast, lunch and dinner delivered every day. No I'm not stalking them I spend most of the day in the front room so see who knocks on their door.

The guy diagonally across the street doesn't get parcels but does seem to have a decent drug business running out of his house.

But generally I find that whilst I do know way too much about the comings and goings of the houses in my street that I can see I don't honestly give a shit how they spend they time or money.

TwinklingStarlight · 15/11/2022 16:37

No, but I swear my aunt and uncle keep more tabs on the neighbours than a professional surveillance team could manage. They are nice people, but I find it a bit weird.

Still, they almost certainly don't live in your road OP.

RoseMartha · 15/11/2022 16:37

No

ColdHandsHotHead · 15/11/2022 16:39

No, where I live you can't see who's getting what delivered. Where I used to live, you could, and if I saw someone getting a Domino's I used to think 'lucky sods'.

DubLynn · 15/11/2022 16:40

This is going to sound so mean but a couple on my road have their adult son living with them and his son (age 6 or 7) is there every second weekend and most of the school holidays. The woman is always going on about how overweight her grandson is and how it's all his mothers fault (i meet her out with her dogs when I'm out with mine) . But they get at least 4 takeaways a week! Our kitchen is in the front of the house so i see a lot of the comings and goings.

Gronkle · 15/11/2022 16:41

My dh noticed our neighbour had a new car the other day, it turns out I've never noticed any of their past cars as I had no idea what he was talking about. He wouldn't notice deliveries.

lili2308 · 15/11/2022 16:41

this freaks me out, never thought that some people 'watch' like that. Creepy - how do people not get bored of analysing their neighbours deliveries 😆😆

PurpleBananaSmoothie · 15/11/2022 16:42

I only pay attention if it causes my dogs to bark, they have delivered it to me or if it is left in a really obvious place (and then it’s more of a text to neighbour to check they are happy with it being left in such an obvious place).

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 15/11/2022 16:44

I don't go out of my way to see but we live on a small cul-de-sac in a quiet area so it's to spot any deliveries/takeaways etc in different cars or vans - plus, i'm on mat leave so in the house more often

BeyondMyWits · 15/11/2022 16:44

Not packages, or takeaways but groceries YES... theres a couple of houses in our road that always seem to know who has the best offers... let's me know where to get my next one. Must be a Waitrose offer this week...

CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood · 15/11/2022 16:45
