To be worried about ice cream missing clip?

I got my shopping delivery today and I always get a tub of ice cream. I just took it out of the freezer and the little plastic clip you pull off to open the tub is missing. (not sure if I'm explaining that correctly)

I've clearly watched too much TV and I'm worried about it.

AIBU to not want to eat it?

YABU - Eat it
YANBU - Don't eat it

It's almost certainly fine and it's just popped off but I'd probably return it.

Wrap

Zone2NorthLondon · 14/11/2022 22:07

Open it, have a look, if it is untampered with get stuck in

maroonhaze · 14/11/2022 22:08

... this actually happened to us recently with the plastic seal on a tub. The customer service woman was a bit pissy that we hadn't noticed on delivery but you're rushed so much.

Phone up and get it refunded and chuck it out.

It’s almost certainly fine but I would not eat it.

Happened to us once with a turkey. On Christmas Eve. Still didn’t eat it.

God MN is nuts. It’s absolutely fine, don’t throw it away FGS

Hankunamatata · 14/11/2022 22:15

Open it and have a look at it

Oh look, a sensible answer.

I do know it's probably fine. I'm the sort that eats 'gone off' yoghurt etc we have very minimal food waste in our house. I think it's because of (fictional) things I've seen on TV about foods/ drinks being tampered with by people for kicks. Yes I can see what I sound like.

It's back in the freezer for now while I think about it.

I got this with baby formula sometimes- they always refunded me. The seal is there for a reason.

Formula if seal broken or damaged yes I’d ask for refund
ice cream, I’d have a look see of it looks tampered but be less perturbed

Formula I wouldn't even question using it and would look for refund.

DS is only 4 months old so can't have ice cream but idk if I'd give him this if he was old enough.

Some ice creams have a clear plastic that has to be removed too, so easier to see if it's been opened or just damaged in delivery.
Baby formula has the plastic in between the lid and actual formula too, which is very obvious if tampered with (but obviously I wouldn't take any risks).

saltinesandcoffeecups · 14/11/2022 22:58

I’m pretty liberal with eating things that are iffy, but I’ve seen one too many videos of people licking ice cream from containers in the store freezer. So it would be a nope for me.

I went to ice a birthday cake late one evening with a tub of shop bought butter cream. Opened it up and someone had swiped a finger full out of it. Felt fairly sure it was my dc but couldn't be certain so chucked it and bought more. When quizzed next day it was indeed my naughty dc!

😂😂DS is 4 months, but I will ask him.

I think I'll bin it I'm just not happy to eat it so I won't, no ice cream for this farmer this week. What if it has been tampered with and ye hear of a housewife killed by poisoned ice cream in rural Ireland 😂seems soooo likely
