Christmas Lights already

If you are one of the people who have put your tree up or lit up your house already, why?

I presume you don't need to worry about rising fuel costs?

You'd be fooled in thinking I've put my "christmas" lights up when in fact they're just fairy lights or colour changing lights. I put them up when the clocks go back qnd they stay up till they go forward again. As for energy costs, they're LEDs.

Floweryflora · 14/11/2022 22:59

Apologies for anyone I've upset, I'll fuck of to my possibly dimly lit corner...or is it twinkly and sparkly. I'll go and check and judge myself accordingly.

😱

Certainly sounds pretty judgemental tbh.

NoDoor · 14/11/2022 23:03

LED lights will cost like a £1 for the month. Love is so shit I will put mine up early this year. Not yet but I’m planning!

Ok so to all of you calling me judgemental I'm not judging I'm asking why - there's a difference. I'm interested in the reasons for people doing it. You all presume I've no lights up have you?

It's interesting that LED lights cost a minimal amount and good to know that too.

To those of you who have them up all year round I totally get that and love twinkly lights in the garden.

I specifically meant Christmas outdoor lights/decs of the Blackpool kind.

You say you specifically meant outdoor lights but you're OP doesn't say that. It also says 'tree'.

It doesn't affect you what other people choose to do so I don't really get why you are so bothered. You posted something that people will obviously have opinions on and then took your bat and ball home when those replies didn't agree.

It's been a shit few years for many so if some twinkly lights and a Christmas tree helps then so be it. Let people be happy

PinkButtercups · 14/11/2022 23:06

Oh leave them be!
If it makes people happy why not. Plus LED Christmas lights cost pennies to run.

But hey let's all pretend it's just the rising costs and not the fact people just want to judge/whinge about what other people do in their lives.

Floweryflora · 14/11/2022 23:07

Is something wrong op? Is something causing you to be unhappy? Are you struggling in some way? Is it cost of living?

Harrysnippleno3 · 14/11/2022 23:08

What is this crap?

Yes, some people don't have to worry about fuel costs. Some people have made cuts elsewhere. Some people have chosen their Christmas lights.

RunLolaRun102 · 14/11/2022 23:10

You need to get clever with the type of lights you use. I use LED everywhere and our massive 5 bed house is cheaper to run than our much smaller 3 bed as a result. A string of LED lights will be neglible to run.

Skelligsfeathers · 14/11/2022 23:12

I am judging
Why on earth would you have Christmas decorations up when it is not Christmas?

Surely it takes away any magic and excitement when it actually IS CHRISTMAS?

LadyMarmaladeAtkins · 14/11/2022 23:12

A few LED lights on a Christmas tree or balcony aren't going to cost much to run.

WRT outdoor displays, well, some people can cover their bills, they don't have to be millionaires, they may have paid off their mortgages for example. Some people are not good with money but will choose to do it anyway and then deal with (or not deal with) the consequences in January just like they do with overspending on presents, food or going out, every year.

Some may have solar panels and not have this concern over fuel costs because they are generating more electricity than they are using (but of course they paid for them in the first place).

What's it to you?

Elerandooo · 14/11/2022 23:18

Neighbours a few doors down have had their Christmas lights up since end of October. My tree is going up this weekend, would have been sooner but I decided to change it up a bit so waiting on some stuff being delivered- would have been up last week otherwise. I love proper revelling in the Christmas spirit as long as possible, winter can be such a long slog.
