John Lewis Beauty Advent Calendar missing item

I urge everyone who has ordered one of these to check the contents on delivery. I have record mine today and it's missing an item worth £60!!! All I can do is return it so more prattling around. Definitely not a carrier issue as parcel all sealed so not tampering. AIBU to expect each package to be weighed to ensure all items are in it?

Oh and should I return and wait for a refund or would it be quicker to raise an issue with my credit card company?

Why would it be quicker to go via your card company

You also can’t without showing you’ve followed the retailers return or complaints process

Well the cost to me is significant so why would I not be upset?

I find John Lewis customer service good, I’d call they might just post you out the missing item.

Joh Lewis have said they will not send a replacement out.

I did have a similar issue with a pair of earrings that arrived slightly damaged; I recall I just arranged a return collection for a courier to come and collect them and then once the credit went back on bought them again once I got the credit. I’m not sure what the issue is sorry? Mistakes happen I guess. You can also return John Lewis stuff at Waitrose if you have one of those handy.

How annoying to have to return the whole calendar to get one item! Shoddy service.

Advent calendar items aren’t often sold separately, so to replace one item they’d have to open another, take it out and send to op. So easier to just return the whole thing

But if you check it now you'll ruin the surprise in December!

@MammaWeasel yes of course. I bought it for me and I always open them, have a look at everything but then put them back until September. And I'm so glad I did now.

Are you serious @Floatyflip ? Of course they should be able to just post out the missing item. It's not rocket science, someone just has to locate it and put it in the post. Pretty sure this is what Liberty do with regard to missing items. Alternatively they could offer a cash refund to the value of the item. Making the OP send the whole thing back is inflexible and unhelpful.

Never had a problem with John Lewis. They may wish the defect calendar back so they (or the manufacturer) can inspect it for faults/batch and lot codes on the calendar and parts to track why the product is not in it.

They are not being unreasonable asking you to return (easily done as you have just received and will have the original packaging) and they will replace, it sound like you are being awkward.

I’ve had the same thing with Clarins - except it was an entire calendar missing of the 2 I ordered…

How do they know that you haven't just removed the one item? If all opened. Tricky one

@Survey99 you bet I'm being awkward! They have no provided the goods I have paid for and now I have to mess about sending one back, reordered another and then being out of pocket in the meantime. I don't have the spare cash to be doing this!
