Recurrent chemical pregnancies and doctors have no answers - please help me

Posting here as no one replies to other forums in my experience

Has anyone has recurrent chemical pregnancies? Has anyone had this that also has a know thyroid condition?

I have now have four positive pregnancy tests that end in no bleeding.

I have had surgery to treat endometriosis and scarring and was told my issues were hopefully now resolved but there's been another chemical loss so I am feeling doubtful.

Anyone had recurrent pregnancies and IVF has resolved as my GP is recommending this but I'm not sure I trust as I would be paying him privately a lot of money.

The NHS I am finding impossible literally to deal with right now so just want to know if any success from IVF after recurrent chemicals that's all I need answers for right now?

Has anyone done this and it worked? Thanks

Wtf. A chemical is still a loss

outpatient · 14/11/2022 17:15

@2greenroses I have been advised to start meds asap after getting a successful test - I thought most people when TTC would test on the day the period is missed? I can't seem to do anything right - test/don't test? What do others do sure I'm not the only one testing when TTC,?

I surely can't be the only one testing so soon? Therefore I still find this an did thing and if best thing to do is not test then surely many must have four miscarriage /chemicals on a row then? I understand one or two light he normal but four now sounds very odd to to me? Once again can someone share to tell me of this is abnormal then or not?

I would maybe wait a week or two before testing, it could also be the tests some do produce convincing looking evap lines or false positives. Flowers

@2greenroses if you have nothing useful or kind to say I don't know why you comment

I’ve had 12 naturally conceived losses before 6 weeks, over about 2.5 years (age 37-40). Some chemicals, some clinical.

I hoped IVF would help but it looks like our cause is primarily poor egg quality due to age. Most of our 4 rounds have yielded 2 embryos, most have tested as chromosomally abnormal. On one exceptional round, we got a normal and a good mixed (mosaic) embryo.

I also had an under-active thyroid, now managed by levothyroxine. Plus autoimmune stuff - so I have been on steroids to treat that. And growth hormone/DHEA/melatonin/mitochondrial
support supplements etc.

No transfers yet so no idea if we’ll
end up with a baby. I am pretty pessimistic tbh.

But yours could have other causes like sperm (easier to fix) etc. You need to have all the testing done to narrow it down.

outpatient · 14/11/2022 17:18

Can someone explain what not testing will do? If I have an issue I want to know.

When people are TTC do they not test then ? Really? I find that hard to believe

@Phrenologistsfinger thank you so much. Sounds very similar to my experience and sorry for your losses.

We have had sperm tested its all fine.

I also had chemicals 6 months in a row in 2021, and I test from 7dpo as that is typically my pattern for positives (it’s pretty rote). My fertility consultant said it’s fine to test and I think its useful to know as it narrows down the issues, i.e. you know your sperm and eggs are meeting/implanting.

That's exactly what I mean, there are no figures for this, for that exact reason, people don't test.

Emmamoo89 · 14/11/2022 17:22

Ignore that. You've done nothing wrong. I always wait for a missed period to test but you can test before then. I really hope you get your rainbow baby. X

Phrenologistsfinger · 14/11/2022 17:22

@outpatient have you done a sperm dna fragmentation test (the comet test)? Has he been checked by a urologist?

Harder to check (and fix!) eggs, that’s kind of only found out through IVF. Have you read ‘it starts with the egg’?

outpatient · 14/11/2022 17:23

@2greenroses sorry but that sounds like bullshit,

When people are actively TTC can you please tel me what you do and when you test?

OP posts:
outpatient · 14/11/2022 17:24

I also experienced excruciating cramping that was not normal so I would have know something wasn't right

OP posts:
mynameiscalypso · 14/11/2022 17:24

I think the point that @2greenroses was making is that it can be relatively common to have a large number of chemical pregnancies but that before early detection tests were widely able, women wouldn't have known. It is not necessarily an indication that something is wrong in and of itself. As for testing, after 3 years TTC, I only ever tested when my period was over two weeks late.

Phrenologistsfinger · 14/11/2022 17:24

Also, sorry you are in the same sh*tty boat!

Scottishgirl85 · 14/11/2022 17:24

You need this to be properly investigated - recurrent early losses is not normal. This can be done under NHS if you meet criteria. Private would be quicker. Nobody can answer if ivf will fix it if you don't know the cause - you may not even need ivf (could be womb issue, immunes, genetic issue etc etc). We went down ivf route with success. Good luck.

devilledhens · 14/11/2022 17:24

@2greenroses is right. before we had these super sensitive tests no woman would have any idea of how many conceptions didn’t ‘stick’, early testing only causes stress. If it’s going to develop into a pregnancy you’ll know about by waiting a week. best of luck 💐

outpatient · 14/11/2022 17:25

@mynameiscalypso ok fair enough. Can I have opinions from others on when they test please? As I'm now confused what to do. Ignoring testing means I can't be given the meds the doctors advised

I thought testing was a normal thing hence why first response tests are everywhere!? What is the norm please

In what way am I being unkind? I've been there myself, and I realised it was the testing itself that was causing me all the pain - so I stopped it. I did eventually have children, how many "chemicals" would I have clocked up if I kept testing so early? who knows? Would it have been in any way helpful, then or now, to know that number - no it wouldn't quite the reverse.

I have 3 beautiful boys - The first two took years, the last was a total surprise - good luck, I hope it works out for you x

outpatient · 14/11/2022 17:26

@Scottishgirl85 precisely thank you. Not testing to me just means wasting time when there could be a fixable problem I don't see what it would solve other than emotional awareness?

But I still would like to know what the norm is please?
