Is this acceptable or OTT

So I have a grown DD and she posts on sm that she was taking a sm holiday for a week which is understandable.

Then she posted that after that time off she would only be available for phone calls, texts, dms, any other communication and then she listed the day and a time period of 2 hours. So no communication from anyone except for example Friday from noon to 2pm once a week. This doesn't just apply to me but to everyone.

To me this seems a bit OTT. I feel I hardly get to talk to her as it is since we have a huge time zone difference and when I do send a message, I don't expect a reply, just when she is able to reply.

She is supposed to be coming to visit me after the first of the year and it would be nice to chat a little about the bookings and other arrangements.

So my question is this a bit OTT unreasonable
or is it an acceptable thing to do?

Could she be homesick and not wanting reminders of home?

DuplicateUserName · 13/11/2022 21:36

It all sounds very strange.

Is it out of character for her or is she the dramatic/attention seeking type?

If she's not careful she'll end up very lonely as people will probably roll their eyes and not bother with her.

Seems a bit self indulgent, I mean she could do all that without the big announcement. But it’s only a week so not exactly the end of the world if you can’t discuss plans until then is it?

I guess I didn't explain it very well.

It's one week completely off social media.

Then when that week is done, the new 2 hours per week thing starts and continues indefinitely.

She lives in the same area as always.

She did it once before a year or so ago.
So I don't know.
I don't know who would be bothering her so much either?

Haha maybe she should get herself a bloody secretary. Sorry, but people who announce they are taking a break from social media wind me up so much. I mean the arrogance!

determinedtomakethiswork · 13/11/2022 21:52

Do you live near her?

Kanaloa · 13/11/2022 21:53

If she was my friend I’d be regretfully announcing that my two hours were the two directly following hers, meaning we’d of course never be able to speak again.

Do her office hours also apply when she’s asking to come and stay with you/calling other people?

TokenGinger · 13/11/2022 21:56

Could she be in an abusive relationship and having her phone taken from her and only allowed access at permitted times?

OoooohMatron · 13/11/2022 21:58

Sorry but she's an attention seeking idiot. I can guarantee anyone who saw her post will be rolling their eyes.

I'm going to go with the post after yours,

Surely those rules don’t apply to her own mother though?!

purpliee · 13/11/2022 22:09

Honestly I wouldn't worry too much. Chances are high that the 'break' won't last long. A couple of weeks and she'll most likely be back.
