Ok. I'll be honest, this post is only a reflection of this weekend.
Peter Kay tickets flying out at over £50 a ticket and pubs in Manchester absolutely packed to the rafter's, with standing room only

Oh stop ot people fgs... Every week.

Head tilt "but pubs are full" head tilt to the other side...🙈

Scottishskifun · 13/11/2022 18:27

Easy different people have different financial obligations, different wages and different priorities.

It tends to be families with young children who are hit hard along with pensioners and those with disabilities. I highly doubt a pensioner were out in a bar in Manchester!

Also probably find some revert back to their students days more pre drinks getting ready meaning less drinks when out!

Mammma91 · 13/11/2022 18:28

I work in a pub. Dead as a stone, we had 10 people in last night. We shut at 1am. Most regulars are peeling back on how much and often they drink and they are pensioners. Prices skyrocketing too.

BosaNova · 13/11/2022 18:29

Just an fyi, lots of places shit, lots are ahutting more days than they did, people then concentrate into places which aren't shut, thus making it look VERY busy.

BosaNova · 13/11/2022 18:29

That's unfortunate typo

XenoBitch · 13/11/2022 18:30

Is the new "don't they know there is a pandemic going on?"

Propagandalf · 13/11/2022 18:31

I'm a low earner (£17k), but I still like going out a couple of times a week. That will mean the pub twice a week and a cafe once a week.

I'm not going to be dictated by what's on the news, and their so-called buzz word - "cost of living".

IneedanewTV · 13/11/2022 18:31

The bankers are getting their bonuses so they will be out eating and drinking.

BusySittingDown · 13/11/2022 18:31

It's probably warmer in the pub than at home where they can't afford to put the heating on? Maybe they've all gone to the pub to get a pint of tap water and sit in the warm. Wink

DamnUserName21 · 13/11/2022 18:31

Agree with PPs. Not everyone will be affected, not everyone will be affected YET, some won't be affected at all. We will likely see more folks cutting back in the new year.

Violashift · 13/11/2022 18:34

£50 on Peter Kay, £20 in the pub.

Come may when my mortgage deal ends and the energy bills go skyward again. I probably won't be doing any of the above.

At the moment the energy is capped albeit still high and many are still on mortgage deals that haven't fed through to renters. It will in time.

I seen so many people while I was out walking in the park, outrageous!!

use583298 · 13/11/2022 18:36

£50 for Peter Kay sounds quite cheap, it's more than that for a music gig

What bankers?
Bonus time is March.

Grumpybutfunny · 13/11/2022 18:38

Ma and DH have moved up our pay scale and have had a small pay rise which basically cancels out the current inflation rate. We've invested in solar from the savings which has cut bills and we are using the log burner over the heating.

Yes we still moan about the cost increases but it's not a heating vs eating it's more a day out vs an investment.

Interestingly friends in the private sector have been offered pay rises to stay with their employer or been offered higher paying jobs elsewhere. A lot aren't bothered about inflation going up if incomes keep up.

theswoot · 13/11/2022 18:41

Didn’t Peter Kay deliberately set the tickets at £35 to make them comparatively affordable?

I agree with lots of PPs, it just hasn’t hit lots of people yet, but it doesn’t mean it won’t. For everyone you saw out I am sure there are lots who are at home and too skint to switch the lights on, but you don’t see them do you?

Plus, lots of venues shut down completely due to the pandemic, so there are fewer places overall to choose from and therefore those that are left may be busier!

Lots of people are struggling but lots of people aren't.

Its as simple as this, I dont know why people dont understand it

Prices have gone up, horrendously so in some aspects but some people can afford it. We've eaten out all weekend for example.

Some people cant afford it and are on their knees, I dont think they're the majority although its a sizeable chunk of the population.

However the media and social media seems to portray the situation as if we're all suffering to the same degree.

AnApparitionQuipped · 13/11/2022 18:44

It's relative - for some 'cutting back' is only having two holidays this year, not three. For others, it's putting the heating on for an hour two days a week, not three.

“I haven’t seen any empty restaurants or pubs so everyone must be loaded.”

FFS

use583298 · 13/11/2022 18:45

DS lives in Manchester, he would have been out pubbing, he hasn't got a huge amount of spare money but he can still afford to go out and enjoy himself

XenoBitch · 13/11/2022 18:46

Getting out and meeting friends for a coffee is very important to me. I can cut back on things at home so I can still afford to get out.

antelopevalley · 13/11/2022 18:48

We were at the pub today, a Weatherspoons. Spent just over £11. How dare we!

Had to pop into shops for essentials and the chocolate isle was full of people so I had to wait to get my choccies! Tut tut...

girlfriend44 · 13/11/2022 18:49

Some people are in debt but still spend.

Underanothersky · 13/11/2022 18:50

We went to a restaurant the other day because we used a gift card my best friend gave us last Christmas. You dont know peoples circumstances
