How does supply maternity cover work?

How does supply maternity cover work. Do you have to have an interview or does the agency just book 1 person to do the job?

A locum covered my role,they were recruited from an agency
They interviewed for post and I did a Handover with locum Prior to going on mat leave

Generally, the agency tells the school they have a suitable supply person if it’s illness. However, the school will usually interview for maternity leave because they know about it in advance. Looking at the TES, there are multiple adverts for maternity cover right now. I would not be impressed if the school didn’t advertise properly.
