Mine are:

Feature Walls
Pampas Grass
Crushed Velvet
Hanging Lights - all on the same beam
Shiny furniture

My house is white and I love it - contrasted with darker wood, artwork, plants and colour from things like cushions etc. and to some that’s absolutely boring and that’s ok.

Tiny tiles (worktops / splash backs or
floors) - horrible to clean
Grey everywhere
wooden laminate flooring -
slippy, cold, often laid badly
that pastel / black wire lighting / fake flowers and plants look - identikit and hate hate plastic plants and plastic grass
log burners - dangerous levels of pollution indoors

but I do like many things others would hate including lots of books, sage green paint, fake
log burners, white walls, colour in pictures, mismatched cushions and throws.

BuryingAcorns · 13/11/2022 22:25

Grey everything but especially grey slightly deep pile carpets throughout a house with visible vacuum line sin them. When I see houses like htis on RightMove I am so turned off because they have clearly been recently done up so you pay a premium for something you hate. That particular grey is such a dreary depressing colour.

Fake grass. Repulsive.

Roarsomemore · 13/11/2022 22:26

I hate my artex ceilings. I wouldn't judge them in your house, I just wish I didn't have them.

Spirini · 13/11/2022 22:26

Lots of family photos on walls - sideboard or piano is fine
TVs on walls
TVs that are too large
Plantation shutters
No colour
No original art
Grey

marmerdeeltje · 13/11/2022 22:29

plantation shutters
kitchen islands
themed houses: seaside cottage! grey minimalist! post industrial loft! French style!
curated walls
anything that makes a home look like a hotel or a bordello
laminate flooring
brass, especially shiny brass
artificial grass
I could go on

Legallypinkish · 13/11/2022 22:30

Wallpaper feature walls
mirrored furniture
ultra modern kitchens
crushed velvet sofas
Family photos everywhere
”inspirational” quotes on walls

but we all like different things .

Dolleey · 13/11/2022 22:30

I reserve (most of my) judgement for exteriors. I couldn’t care less if it’s all grey inside, but painting the outside of a building battleship grey in this country ought to be illegal.

Pretend plastic wood cladding.

The mania for grey upvc + white rendering on 20s and 30s houses - very sad. I get it for more modern buildings, but homes from that time tend to have nice brickwork or traditional rendering. There are gorgeous, big, beyond my budget detached houses from this period where I come from, and in the last few years so many of them have had this treatment. The idea seems to be to obliterate any hint they weren’t built last week and owners clearly spend a lot on it. There seems to be a lack of appreciation for them as period homes.

And, yes, ripping out period features is number one interior crime. I can’t believe people are still doing this. If you don’t like wood panelling, paint it white fgs. At least that can be undone at a later date.

What kind have you got? We've got fans in our living room and weirdly I like it, 60s house so it's in keeping. I'm convinced that artex ceilings will become a much sought after period feature for the next generation 😂

yasminesarahx · 13/11/2022 22:35

Bad quality furniture
Square-shaped modern sofa’s
Fake marble
Anything rose gold

Ultimately, I love that we all have different tastes and homes. My home is very neutral and cosy with lots of dark wood, dark green accents and brass antique accessories. I know for some people they couldn’t think of anything worse🤣

Iamboredandgoingforatwix · 13/11/2022 22:36

Not really an expert, my house is a shit hole and rented, so don't bother with much.

I don't like:
Grey everything
Peach and teal together
Bits of driftwood shit with shit quotes on
Sofas where the back is just cushions
Coffee table books, I would flick through them but they are a bit wanky
Professional pictures of home owner, but kids are OK.
Anything too wanky

This isn’t going to win me any friends but I hate the trend for goldfish bowl giant folding patio doors instead of a back wall with a window and door.

If you live in a town, every sod behind you can see all up your business in what’s usually your lounge/kitchen space, especially at night when you light up like a Christmas tree. Who wants that? I don’t want to worry about what I’m wearing when I make the first cup of tea of the day or lounging in front of the telly.

Plus walls are great because you can put furniture along them. Like a bookcase or a sofa. Or outside, a wall is perfect behind your patio table and chairs or even a few plants in pots.

I've often wondered about those huge walls of windows too, very unprivate if your garden is overlooked and how much does their cleaning cost??? With the increased energy costs I wonder how many people are now regretting houses with vast open living spaces and high ceilings. I like to be able to close the sitting room door in winter.

marmerdeeltje · 13/11/2022 22:38

@Dolleey I completely agree with you 20s 30s homes are under-appreciated and their architectural merits overlooked, it makes me sad to see them being defaced.

Pickles79543 · 13/11/2022 22:39

Non wool carpets (especially shiny grey stuff)

wall boards in bathrooms

school photos still in those nasty mounts on display

non tape top curtains

laminate floors

coloured/matching kitchen accessories

grey and pink themed living rooms

House is only 20 years old. Not the fans - my grandparents had that design. Have a fondness for that. Just looks like it's done with a rag.

I think you are completely right about it it possibly coming back round. For all you original features lovers, not to worry, I'm not touching it (too dirty a job) 😁

Pickles79543 · 13/11/2022 22:40

Ooh and books on display.

I doubt they will, they were the rage in the 60s but haven't come back yet, thank goodness. I recall viewing a house in the 80s where there was a 'feature wall' in the living room, it looked like it had had thick plaster on then someone had gone over it with the bottom of a beer bottle. All I could see was a dust magnet.

PayPennies · 13/11/2022 22:42

The only thing I dislike about houses is if there folks living there are shit, mean and devoid of empathy.

thebestcestmoi · 13/11/2022 22:48

‘Everything grey’ seems to be going now. Most of the ‘Instagram’ types are going for all natural/cream/beige tones now.

Puddinandpie · 13/11/2022 22:51

@PayPennies absolutely couldn't agree more well put

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 13/11/2022 22:54

I don't for the life of me see what's so offensive about: range ovens, garden furniture, en suites or rainfall showers.

Exposed bricks can look beautiful or awful, depending on the situation.

Favourite things in my home: laundry room, inglenook fireplace, enormous tree in the garden with a stone seat underneath, large window seat set into a square bay covered with scatter cushions (a lot of people's pet hate). I can lie and read and watch the rain fall, and in the summer the windows open onto the peaceful back garden and the breeze comes straight in. None of these things are 'status symbols' of any kind but they are priceless to me.

For people concerned about art, don't make the mistake of thinking that a crap original is better than a really good print. The reverse is true.

Pipsquiggle · 13/11/2022 22:56

Smeg 'retro' fridges - the ones that were trendy for about 3 years

bringincrazyback · 13/11/2022 22:57

Magnolia
Massive TVs
'Generic' pictures (by which I mean the kind that look like they came from a department store and tell you nothing about the person who owns them)
Wood panelling
Live Love Laugh signs
Great big studio photos of the occupants, like the ones in the living room in Friday Night Dinner.
Overly 'minimalist' rooms (I find them soulless)
'Stylish' kids' bedrooms. Kids' bedrooms should look like they belong to kids imho.
Also used to hate avocado bathroom suites, though they seem to be dying a death now, thankfully!

Veuvelily · 13/11/2022 22:58

I really can’t get worked up about what other people have inside their houses.

Grey window frames & grey prison style doors. Lots of the 1930s semis round here are like that, totally stripping them of character.
