What date is next Wednesday?

Having an ongoing debate about this. Please settle it for me (preferably so I win) 😁

It's definitely going to be about "this" and "next".
The answer is the 16th

Same. So if I'm referring to the 16th I'll say this Wednesday.

If I'm referring to the following Wednesday I'd say not this Wednesday but next.

But if someone said next Wednesday I'd expect they were talking about the 16th.

16th is the the Next Wednesday so that’s what it will be. When Monday arrives I might refer to it as this Wednesday although it would still technically be the next time it’s Wednesday 🤣

No, for it to be 23rd November, you would have to say "the Wednesday after next". Next Wednesday is the Wednesday that comes next, next being the closest or next immediate Wednesday. Last Wednesday was the Wednesday that just passed and so, next Wednesday is the Wednesday that comes after the last Wednesday and the last Wednesday was yesterday.

The 16th. But only till Sunday which is when the 16th becomes this Wednesday.

This Wednesday and next Wednesday are the same date at this point in the week - 16th. Once we get to Monday, 'this Wednesday' would be the 16th and 'next Wednesday' would be 23rd. If I wanted to refer to the 23rd today I would say 'the Wednesday after next' or 'a week Wednesday'.

However, I always clarify because so many people have different rules for it.

The 23rd is a week on Wednesday, it’s not the next Wednesday.

I would say 16th as that is the next Wednesday, DH would say the 23rd. It’s been the topic of many heated discussions.

Same for us! It's led to problems trying to arrange visits from friends etc, who turned up on the wrong date due to DH inviting them to come over next Saturday. When he actually meant a week on Saturday.

Next Wednesday is my DC's birthday of course - how could you all have forgotten 😂🙃
