Looking for advice please

My brother is in America with work and TERRIFIED of flying, he flew out a month ago and nearly didn't get the flight, the only way he got on was by getting blind drunk and a lot of coaxing by some girls he met in the airport and checking the wind constantly and reassuring himself itnwasnt windy

Now he has to fly home, he keeps checking the weather and it is windy all the time and he is literally crying to me every night about how he doesn't know how he is going to get on a plane.

He has some other stuff going on and his mental health isn't great. He just wants to come home.

I'm really worried about him and just want him home :( does anyone know of ANYTHING he can do? Will the Airlines help in some way? He saw the GP in england and they gave him propanalol but it didn't help.

What airline is he flying with? Some may be helpful on the day, in terms of letting him board first/last if it would help in some small way. He could speak to them at check in and ask if any help is available. And some airline crew are very good if they know they have a nervous passenger.

But please advise him against getting blind drunk! He is very likely to get turned away from the flight if he is disruptive in the airport or gate staff realise he's very drunk - he becomes a danger to other passengers and the aircraft and they won't risk allowing him to fly. And having to rebook is not going to help the anxiety!

Valium ! I was also scared stiff of flying I couldn’t have cared less if I was going in a space ship after taking it !

Can he see a doctor there and get some valium?

I would suggest that he goes to an urgent care and explains the situation. since he only needs enough to get through one flight, they may be willing to prescribe him something stronger than propranolol.

They may not, some have blanket policies saying they won’t prescribe things like Valium or Xanax to prevent drug seeking. It’s hard to know though because I have gone into an urgent care with an injury that had very prominent signs making it clear they do not prescribe pain medication. i come out with strong pain pills without even asking due to the serious nature of my situation, so some do allow for prescriber discretion.

Some airlines do a fear of flying course, although you have to pay for it.
I feel for him. I the flying and often wonder what I would do if I got one way and couldn't get back (eg after a bad flight or something)
Of course there is the option of a boat/cruise, but I believe it is very expensive and takes about a week to get from the East Coast to Southampton.
