Hello.

A few years ago, a very young version of me, someone who is very distant from my wonderful and lucky life now, was in a vulnerable situation.

I had escaped domestic violence and a landlord reached out to me, he allowed me to privately rent a home of his at a discounted price.. it was my sanctuary!! (And 400 miles away from abusive ex!)

However, during the time in the rented house (6 months was all), he coerced me into a sexual relationship..

He was a married & wealthy man...

When I sent a message to him asking for the relationship to end, he evicted me. ( the eviction was all done proper and correct as I had a real tenancy agreement so as a "landlord" he did everything correct).

When I look back now, as I felt at the time ashamed and embarrassed, I still am, I had no means and struggled to find another place to rent, but eventually after borrowing money and lying on my application form (had to say I had a job when really my income was from benefits and income support as I had two young children and no help/support from anyone) I found another, safe, rental.

Was there any wrong doing on the landlords part?

I have the means for a civil case now, but I can't prove coercion all I can say is what happened..

How do you ever prove coercion..

Any experience or advice?

I think your difficultly would be proving the coercion, and not that you're a jaded ex tenant. Do you have evidence of text messages etc? If so print these out and put them somewhere safe.

Don't waste any more happiness on this situation. Despite them trying to bring you down, you moved on.. you excelled and your are happy. Happier than this landlord and your abusive ex. You have won the ultimate prize.

How long ago was this?

It will be incredibly hard to prove coercion, and if it was too long ago that also works against you

It wouldn't be a civil case you personally brought it would be a criminal case via the police and I doubt the CPS would entertain it without solid proof. He only needs to say you were his girlfriend. Civil cases cost thousands of pounds and the only thing you could be awarded would be money. It's really a he said, she said thing without some corroborating evidence. Unfair but I can't see a good outcome.
