I got an email this evening from a newish, smallish company that was very clearly meant to be an internal email that was sent to their mailing list by mistake. It gave a whopping discount code.
Not going to lie, I did intend to take advantage so I got as far as the checkout. There were queues onto the website and queues to check out so I wasn't the only one.
Then I got a pang of... guilt? So I didn't check out. Not sure if it was because it was an obvious mistake or because it was a small company or what. Or because there was a direct link to a real person?
Now don't get me wrong, I have in the past taken advantage of discounts (NOT the infamous John Lewis one last year because that felt "wrong" too) but I wondered what, if anything, stops you from taking advantage of mistakes like this?
No judgement. I'm trying to worko out why I feel bad about certain ones but am happy to use others.
