To think the cost of living payment should have been paid differently?

muddlinthroughit · 09/11/2022 21:27

Would like to think 99% of people have used it as it's meant, to help with food, fuel etc

However, on my socials today I have seen 1 person spend it on nails and 2 tattoos, and another on a PS5....

Not sure that's what it's meant for?

We have put ours aside for food and power and to help with Xmas

Ahem.

To think the cost of living payment should have been paid differently?
LindseyHoyleSpeaks · 09/11/2022 22:13

@Imnothereforthegiggles - no issue with people who genuinely need it getting a payment, but I do have an issue with people I know working cash in hand, claiming benefits they’re not entitled to and then bragging about how they’ve spent them
on a package holiday in the sun. That’s not what the benefits system was set up for. Not sure why you can’t see the difference! I’d you’re a low earner, but not quite low enough to receive these payments, can’t you see how this would be galling?

edwinbear · 09/11/2022 22:14

@BeyondThinkOfTheOptics might I tentatively suggest you book yourself a session at a tanning lounge to keep warm, dry out your coke and get a tan at the same time? That’s simple economic scale.

TimeFlysWhenYoureHavingRum · 09/11/2022 22:15

Yabu. If people are entitled to a payment they can spend it is they wish.

colette1970 · 09/11/2022 22:15

Mine is going straight to my rent to local council ,because I am on income support my local council has said I am not allowed housing benefit ,I am a full time carer for a severely disabled child who needs 24 hour support, I get carers allowance, was told go on universal credit then they will allow and pay my rent in full but would be without any payments for up to 12 week , yes would be back dated but need gas ,electricity ,water and food .

TheHateIsNotGood · 09/11/2022 22:17

Quite right giggles for mentioning disabled people and those who Care for them. Naturally those that receive Carers Allowance get nuffink and Disabled people need to stfu as they got a one-off CoL payment of £150 back in Sept and it's unknown if disability will still be a qualifier for the annual Warm Home Discount for 22-23.

Maybe we'd like to get our nails done too.

Curtayne · 09/11/2022 22:18

Up to them isn't it, they might have enough for the increased bills or might just be shit with money. I feel sorry when it's the latter and children are involved though so their crap decisions affect those who can't decide for themselves.

Testina · 09/11/2022 22:19

Oh @muddlinthroughit you silly sausage 🤣
If you’re going to criticise people for spending it on frivolous discretionary spending, you really shouldn’t have mentioned your Xmas plans for yours. You’re either a total dick or a total plonker 🤣

edwinbear · 09/11/2022 22:21

Don’t think OP is coming back….

I care infinitely less about this than I do about Liz Truss’s severance package and guaranteed income for life.
They want us hating and blaming each other while they steal from us.

megletthesecond · 09/11/2022 22:23

I bought drugs for my goat while they watched the flat screen telly.

washing machine that packed up didn't it

The drug dealers round our way a pretty busy atm

liveforsummer · 09/11/2022 22:26

So what if people treat themselves. A few years ago on the same income they'd probably have afforded to do that without government payments. Mine will also be used for Xmas presents- not fuel. It all comes from one pot though.

Relevanceiskey · 09/11/2022 22:26

KitchiHuritAngeni · 09/11/2022 21:47

I'm going to spend mine on drugs so I don't feel the cold over the winter. I'm quite a lightweight so I should manage to get a pretty good buzz on for a few weeks with that money.

😂😂😂

Do you know what - the people who do that have had zero effect on your or my bills.

Liz Truss’ fucking mini budget however has potentially made my home unaffordable on top of all the rising energy costs.

I really don’t care what people spend £324 on to be honest. Even if they don’t spend it on energy and cost of living immediately, they will still need to find the shortfall from somewhere.

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/11/2022 22:27

I'm claiming the £20 a week dog allowance. For my cat.

muddlinthroughit · 09/11/2022 22:28

Brainfogmcfogface · 09/11/2022 21:36

Oh do one will you! IF you did indeed see that scroll past and get a life and stop being bothered by what other people chose to spend there own money on, it’s pathetic!

Sooo combative. You do one

Well, that's as much of a luxury as a set of nails or a tattoo isn't it?

I said Xmas, no mention of presents

OP posts:
edwinbear · 09/11/2022 22:29

I’d hoped this thread was going to turn into a bit of light heartedness in pretty shit times for us all, but if it’s going to take a serious turn, if the nail technician and the tattooist got some work from it - is that not the point?

TooBigForMyBoots · 09/11/2022 22:31

Jealous @muddlinthroughit ?

It goes towards the cost of living. Not towards the cost of merely surviving.

So what if people want a takeaway or something out of it? Its going back into the economy (that desperately needs it!), which otherwise wouldn't if they didn't have the money.

Drives me mad, the attitude that some have. It's almost as if those lowly enough to qualify should only be using it to continue breathing. 🙄

Silvercurtains · 09/11/2022 22:32

You’re so right. How dare poor people use their money for enjoyment or pleasure. Any extra cash they rarely have should solely be spent on absolutely essential bills. 🙄
