To think the cost of living payment should have been paid differently?

Would like to think 99% of people have used it as it's meant, to help with food, fuel etc

However, on my socials today I have seen 1 person spend it on nails and 2 tattoos, and another on a PS5....

Not sure that's what it's meant for?

We have put ours aside for food and power and to help with Xmas

How do you suggest it should have been paid instead?

catgirl1976 · 09/11/2022 21:29

You are quite right. It should have been paid in gruel vouchers

I didn’t get it but I’m not bothered how other people spend it. If they want to buy a PS5 so be it. It would have cost a lot more for the government to have taken everyone shopping with it to make sure they spent it in something “worthy”

Ilovemycatalot · 09/11/2022 21:30

So you were happy to get yours but begrudge how others get it?

edwinbear · 09/11/2022 21:31

We’re not eligible either and I understand what you’re saying, but you can’t police how grown ups spend their money really.

IntrovertedPenguin · 09/11/2022 21:32

Pretty sure it's not for Christmas presents either? Contradicting yourself there.

glasshole · 09/11/2022 21:33

Well, that's as much of a luxury as a set of nails or a tattoo isn't it?

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/11/2022 21:33

I love that you've decided part of the payment was specifically to help towards Christmas.

Teeheehee1579 · 09/11/2022 21:33

Well if that is what they genuinely spent it on then likely they cannot manage money and will have issues later down the line. You can’t police it all and also social media posts are generally a load of old rubbish these days

Notplayingball · 09/11/2022 21:34

Ours will probably be used for food.

CantSleepCountingSheep · 09/11/2022 21:35

Does everyone get this?

Brainfogmcfogface · 09/11/2022 21:36

Oh do one will you! IF you did indeed see that scroll past and get a life and stop being bothered by what other people chose to spend there own money on, it’s pathetic!

NippyWoowoo · 09/11/2022 21:36

How TF do you know that's specifically what it was used on 😂 🤡

I was literally thinking the same thing😂

Swedishmeatball · 09/11/2022 21:38

The spending of other benefit money isn’t policed so there’s no reason to handle this differently.

You're spending yours on Christmas, but sure, go off.

Maybe the PS5 being kept for for Christmas? How is that different then you

Budgeting wise it could have been a sensible (ish) choice if they would have got the ps5 anyway, but this way were able to pay all at once instead of getting an overpriced payment plan. As they didn't get it on credit, they will now be better off each month then they would have been, so mare able to manage cost of living.

OK they could just live without it, but that could be said for any luxury, and for hours of enjoyment vs cost, game console work out pretty good value for some.

XenoBitch · 09/11/2022 21:43

I am going to buy a new kettle with mine. Is that allowed?

edwinbear · 09/11/2022 21:45

I don’t get the CoL payment, but I will confess to buying the family Papa Johns with our £66 energy rebate this month. <scurries off to self flagulate>

FrankTheThunderbird · 09/11/2022 21:46

I've just spent some of mine on clothes. I desperately need new ones. Mine are all too big and most of my tops have holes in.

I'll also be buying the dc some new jeans and Pjs as they've grown.

KitchiHuritAngeni · 09/11/2022 21:47

I'm going to spend mine on drugs so I don't feel the cold over the winter. I'm quite a lightweight so I should manage to get a pretty good buzz on for a few weeks with that money.

Mine was credited to y fuel bill, or are you joking?
