Would like to think 99% of people have used it as it's meant, to help with food, fuel etc

However, on my socials today I have seen 1 person spend it on nails and 2 tattoos, and another on a PS5....

Not sure that's what it's meant for?

We have put ours aside for food and power and to help with Xmas

Wonder how some of these posters felt when they started paying HB to people instead of sending it to landlords 😱

I don’t think anyone minds the money being used for treats etc. The problem is when the money is squandered on non-essentials, and then the person claims they have no money for food etc. eg. Frequent takeaways

and I wasn’t talking about you or anyone on this thread, I was just specifically saying that within any system it’s the most vulnerable that are often the one who suffer /get cheated swindled out of money etc.

ive seen demeaning , and it’s not standing in a supermarket line like anyone else and paying for your groceries that you’ve selected based on your preference/ diet and paid for it with a card just like everyone else.

That’s the age old thing though isn’t it. I don’t get it because I don’t get any benefits either. I always see people spending their benefits on nails, hair, new electronics etc.
We can’t dictate how anyone spends their money and I’ll presume they still have to pay other bills so it makes no difference which pot of money they use for which.

We used some of ours to go on food shop yesterday and the rest is going to be combined with my wages next week to buy oil. It couldn’t have come in at a better time as we didn’t know how we were going to buy food this week.

Stirring up hateful rubbish to try amd enlist hate against benefits claimants. I think there is a large degree if bull in this, but even if there isn't, it's non of your business. Nobody micro analyses what rich tax avoiders spend their money on, and they are no different in the long run, if not worse, because instead of spending 150 on a tatoo, which at least benefits some other local business, they are withholding millions of pound from the economy.

With the cost of living crisis and all things rising, maybe people just want to enjoy ‘life’ a little instead of being miserable and fed up like we have been through this whole thing since covid.

Everyone has suffered, on way or another, so people just went to enjoy something they probably couldn’t afford otherwise. If they want to buy holidays and Playstations, it’s their call.

You then say you’re saving yours to help towards Xmas! So is that for luxury food or presents, a new Xmas tree, lights?? You’ve totally contradicted yourself there.

Instead of worrying about what everyone else is spending their cash on, be pleased for them, share the love and positivity. We’ve all been to hell and back through covid. It’s time we started living again and enjoying what we can, when we can. These opportunities may never come up for these people again.

My family aren’t entitled to any payouts, we earn just a few pounds over the threshold, we are still struggling with 6 of us in the house. We’ve not been able to have the heating on, celebrate birthdays how we’d like, go on holiday, meals out, trips out, no new clothes or luxury items. Xmas is going to be such a wonderful time still because we’ve got one another. We don’t need loads of presents, we have each other. We’re contemplating buying from charity shops this year cause we’re on the bones of our arse, but we don’t care. We’re still buying but doing our buy for charity.

Life is what you make it, just enjoy it!

I'm delighted that people who might be struggling are getting some money with which to either pay their bills or treat themselves, and I hope they enjoy spending it.

I'll be using mine(when it comes) partly on bills and partly on a Christmas trip. People should be able to spend it on what they want, once all the essentials have been paid. I've got no local family, so I'll be spending some of it on a train ticket for me and dd to visit my close relatives at the other end of the country. What with everything going up, without it id struggle to be able to afford to go. If someone wants to get their nails done as a treat, then why not? as long as other bills have been paid etc.

Of course people should prove they need help before being given taxpayer’s money Hmm only on here is that seen as ‘controversial’

Maybe Child tax credits/benefit should be changed to vouchers instead. Or if people can afford to put it in a bank account for their DC's then maybe those parents shouldn't be getting it because they clearly don't need to spend that money on essentials for them. You see where this policing of how people spend government handouts can go.

Personally I could t give a fuck. I know on MN people think those on benefits should wear cloth sacks and self flagellate in shame but if people wanna buy a games console to make the h whet nights go faster then more power to them. Mine was supposed to go for Christmas presents for kids, unfortunately car broke down day before I got the payment - so it all went on repairs for the car! Nightmare but so grateful for it
