Another winter wedding one…

Thoughts on this for a November wedding please? I bought it last year for a party while pregnant and am wondering whether it would work as a wedding outfit too as I’m still breastfeeding, albeit probably only once during the wedding. Dress code is “formal”.

I thought it might be ok but have just seen half of Mumsnet tell someone else black isn’t ok for a wedding 😬

And if it’s not suitable, any other suggestions please?!

YABU - wear something else
YANBU - wear the dress!

I voted YANBU because I was a bride in April and wouldn’t of cared if someone wore this to my wedding. I would say maybe ask the bride if you know her well enough if you really wanted too but I don’t think there is a problem with this dress. You could make try and have pops of colour with hair accessories, shoes and a bag as well if you wanted too.

That's lovely. One of my best friends wore black to my winter wedding, I loved it, she looked amazing

Zoomingo · 09/11/2022 17:58

Yes that's very nice and is not a jumpsuit

WonkasBooboofixer · 09/11/2022 18:12

Wear that it's beautiful

PottyDottyDotPot · 09/11/2022 18:13

It’s lovely.

Ooh gorgeous! Seraphine? Really classy design. I think you could get away with it for a winter wedding especially as it's not all black.

MollieMarie · 09/11/2022 18:17

Personally, I'd ask the bride if wearing black is okay because some people get funny about that kind of stuff.

Ellmau · 09/11/2022 18:29

I think that looks very nice.

Apologies for drip feeding but the groom is Chinese - suddenly occurred to me just now that might mean the “rules” are different, and Google suggests black is a no no! I think I’ll double check with him but can anyone familiar with the culture confirm whether that’s a “thing”?

Just ask the bride

mast0650 · 09/11/2022 18:44

Looks perfect to me, but worth a quick check just in case!

Oh then no! Very unlucky! It's still a gorgeous dress though.

moistmingemist · 09/11/2022 19:00

I'd wear it but I guess if it's unlucky in Chinese culture and you know that now that changes things. Personally I think to wear white at a wedding is a bigger faux pas!

Pashazade · 09/11/2022 19:04

The last Chinese wedding I went to, in China, the dress code was nobody gave a toss about what people wore. Literally people were in jeans and T-shirts and legging and long tops. I wore dark navy and no one said a thing. You're over thinking! It's gorgeous.

MenaiMna · 09/11/2022 19:07

When people say don't wear black to a wedding it's really a rule about not bringing a "funeral" vibe. The skirt makes it fun, the style is formal enough and as pp say lift it with popping accessories!

Sceptre86 · 09/11/2022 19:11

I'd ask whoever has invited you. So if you know the groom better ask him or the other way around. For what it's worth I think it is very pretty and will be flattering on. If its bad luck to wear black in his culture though and they follow it I'd avoid.

2pinkginsplease · 09/11/2022 19:25

I’d wear what I want and not bother asking the bride or grooms opinion. I’ve worn black to a few weddings, I’m not a colourful clothed person.

my wardrobe is full of black, grey navy and Khaki. I don’t feel comfortable in bright colours.
