Hairdresser problems - Aibu?

Hairdresse · 09/11/2022 11:20

I had hair extensions fitted by a self employed hair dresser at a hair salon. He ordered the hair and we agreed on a length/colour etc at the consultation. He then cut the hair extensions too short - one side was a lot shorter than the other so the only thing he could do was cut it all shorter to match. So my 18” extensions ended up being shoulder length which wasn’t what was agreed.

I said it was shorter than expected and he agreed, so the hair dresser ended up ordering a 2nd set of hair to redo the entire thing.

The problem is that he has now left the salon I visited and works elsewhere. The 2nd set of hair extensions aren’t the same as the 1st set, for example the colour is different and it doesn’t blend with my hair. I went to the salon and raised it and although they agree with me that it’s a bad job, they’re saying that as the hair dresser was self employed, there’s nothing they can do and gave me his instagram to message him directly. Aibu to be annoyed with the salon’s response?

YANBU. Your dealings are with the hair salon.

Insist on a refund.

BattenburgDonkey · 09/11/2022 11:53

Depends wether you booked in with the salon, or with him really.

Nectarpeach · 09/11/2022 11:55

YANBU to be pissed but YABU to expect the salon to do anything about it, although he was using their chair, he is self employed and it isn't their responsibility at all. You need to reach out to him directly and either get a refund from him or request he books you in his new premises and does the job properly.

Cakeyface123 · 09/11/2022 12:25

A lot of salons rent out chairs. They’d have nothing to do with any hair issues with the person who has rented the chair. I think as someone else has said, it depends if you booked direct with the hairdresser or through the salon. If you booked through the salon I’d expect they would hold some responsibility

amijustparanoidorjuststoned · 09/11/2022 12:34

Message him on Instagram - if he doesn't respond I would be leaving a poor Google review!

FatAntelope · 09/11/2022 12:40

Message him directly.

Sugarplumfairy65 · 09/11/2022 12:52

It's on him not the salon. He just rented a chair there

Angelofthenortheast · 09/11/2022 12:55

Yeah I'd be furious, but I think they're right, it's his problem.

Rent a chair is like a market stall holder ripping you off and you complaining to the market hall owner.

Did you pay the money directly to the hairdresser, or to the salon? This makes a difference imo.

Hairdresse · 09/11/2022 14:05

I booked it through the salon, and paid the money to the salon at the end if that makes a difference. I have emails from the salon itself confirming my booking and issuing my receipt. The transaction in my bank account shows as the salon name too. I guess if all else fails, I’ll have to put a chargeback in which would most likely force the salon to respond

I messaged him directly and he’s basically said in a condescending way that it’s a difference of opinion as he’s already redone it so “we’re not a good fit”. I have said that his colleagues at the salon has agreed it is not a good colour match but he’s washed his hands of it. Not that I want to go back to him.

You paid the money to the salon, the issue lies with them as far as I’m concerned.

Hairdresse · 09/11/2022 17:06

Thanks - I have just raised a chargeback with my bank for services not as described. I am just at my tether with this. Have been so embarrassed at my hair recently- my hair is awful and I feel ashamed of it.

The salon will dispute it and your bank will charge it back to you.all they have to do is show the bank a copy of his chair rental contract.
Its happened to me in the past.

Hairdresse · 10/11/2022 00:08

I’m ready for the salon to dispute it regardless so I submitted photographs and invoices to back up my claims. If the bank doesn’t find in my favour, it happens but I have nothing to lose by trying to seek a remedy through my bank.

Update if anyone is interested haha

So it turns out I paid the self employed hair dresser directly which means the chargeback is against the right person and will hopefully go through without an issue.

And the salon manager called me and is going to try and fix my hair as much as possible. Not free of charge but I wasn’t expecting that.
