Does anyone else hate Christmas?

Adverts getting earlier, pressure to spend money , pressure to do elf on the shelf Christmas boxes. and visit stuffy SIL and stay over. I'm having an operation so won't be able to travel or host a big family Xmas meal. It will just be the 3 of us. AIBU to be quite excited about this ?

I don’t hate it but I don’t like it being a huge thing. I did spend one Christmas entirely alone, and may do the same this year, and it was really nice! It feels quite indulgent to have a whole day to yourself really. Enjoy your pared down Christmas this year.

I find Christmas vaguely embarrassing, like it should be really great but it never is, so we all have to pretend. I'm usually glad when it's over. This year though I'm going to try to do things I enjoy like carols and perhaps go to church and try to reconnect with it all, it's a shame not to enjoy it when it's such a big part of the year. I love Halloween, lower expectations!

I hate it all, but especially the pressure topretend like you’re having the time of your life.

Topseyt123 · 09/11/2022 01:48

I'm not Christmas's biggest fan either. It's OK, but I'd prefer it to be held every two years, not every year.

Just my daft tuppence worth there.

I love the idea of a biennial Christmas - I'm in!

ilovesooty · 09/11/2022 01:51

The day itself isn't too bad I suppose but the lead up to it is horrible.

Chloefairydust · 09/11/2022 01:57

I have always loved the build up to Christmas, however this year I am looking at ways I can save money in regards to buying everyone presents. Unfortunately I won’t be financially in a place to be as generous as I normally am with family and friends. I will probably spend most on my partner and DM and everyone else will have to be cheap and cheerful gifts. It’s stressful though.

sashh · 09/11/2022 02:00

I just don't do it.

I don't have children and if I did things might be different.

Every year when I see the madness I breath a sigh of relief.

I love the run up to Christmas, so long as it is in December, I don’t want a three month run up. We usually put a bit of effort in regarding decorating, presents and cooking but the last couple of years it has just been me and DH and it is hard to keep up the energy on the day and can feel a bit forced.

So we decided to opt out by going on holiday this year and will be spending Christmas Day in Hawaii. 😀

CAJIE · 03/01/2023 17:02

Um well if i did have kids it would be one day only and poss in spain
Forced family visits limited and no self sacrificing mums.why do we all need to live in exactly the same way when so many are clearly sad and restricted.?having kids is no guarantee of a happy xmas.wealth probably is tho.jennifer aniston is not an un happy childless woman.her life is great.friends.friends kids.ex lovers are friends $$$beautiful house..,clothes.. dogs.work.etc
