Why are some NHS staff unkept looking?

I don't visit hospitals often thank goodness but I can't help but notice a lot of staff in hospitals are quite scruffy. Surely working in a hospital environment it is imperitive to be spotlessly clean and well groomed?? The Philipino nurses always look clean and tidy it's just our staff.

take ayummy sald into work put it in the communal fridge and eat it when and if you get a break, oh and thats if one of the dr's hasn;t stolen it or the porter. lost count of the amount of times i thought i would eat my heathy salad or snadwich or apple etc to find that it had been eaten and the dirty container left in the sink unwashed!!!

Boozysuzie is obviously a spy if she can't tell us what she does.

I can however, tell you what she is:

A judgemental idiot.

I am not going to waste anymore of my time on her stupid post, have to start putting my make-up on for my morning shift!!!

Thats right, 4 inches of make-up and sod the patients!!!

BoozySuzie · 29/01/2008 20:45

What is your job MotherFunk?

I think cheshirekitty and lulumama amongst others have answered the op and have been completely ignored by her.

Now she is coming out with incendiary comments in order to inflame an argument, such as health professionals are fat etc.

What a lovely character, thank god she's not a nurse.

rantinghousewife · 29/01/2008 20:48

I know what Boozy does for a living.
Clue; she trip trapps on bridges!

Sidge · 29/01/2008 20:48

If you worked 14 hour shifts regularly with hardly time to go to the toilet let alone eat a healthy meal you'd probably look pretty unkempt too.

Can just imagine it - sorry Mr Jones, I will come and attend to your dying wife shortly, just got to brush my hair and touch up my lippy first

cali · 29/01/2008 20:50

Boozy, salads and fruit are not enough to keep you going if you are working. You SIL is obviously a 'nurse' who works in an office and is not on her feet for 12.5 hours.

if the hospital management do not want to employ enough staff , why would they care about providing healthy food and fridges?

are you complaining about the standard of care you received? if not, then what is your problem?

nurses and NHS staff are not automatons, they are REAL people, with real needs that are not being addressed by central governemnt

BoozySuzie · 29/01/2008 20:53

Sorry if I offended some nurses on here, that was not my intention.

I have to log off as DD is crying.

OP posts:
Lulumama · 29/01/2008 20:54

well,if you're sorry, that's ok then

cali · 29/01/2008 20:54

I work in a unit with over 120 staff, we have 2 fridges and 2 microwaves, one table that seats 5 people. On each shift there can be over 20 people all trying to cook/eat food. We do not have the space or facilities for us all to bring in our own food and cook it.

FAQ · 29/01/2008 20:54

.........very inconvenient of your DD to cry now

booze, you didn't intend to offend nurses - lol

tigana · 29/01/2008 21:03

I am unkempt because I am an unkempt sort of person...who happens to work for the NHS.
I would also be unkempt if I worked anywhere else.
Luckily..I can do my job whether my shoes are freshly polished or not...

(sorry...someone has undoubtedly made this sort of observation already)

tiredemma · 29/01/2008 21:04

utter tosh and drivel.

cheshirekitty · 29/01/2008 21:05

I am a bit upset that booziesuzie has not realised the pressures nurses in the NHS are under today.

I am a traditionally trained nurse and midwife, and the turnover of patients and the amount of work we are expected to do these days is phenominal.

She has left the argument with no clearer knowledge then she started with, this upsets me.

I would like to say a big thank you and hugs to everyone who supported us nurses.

And I am really intrigued as to what she does for a living.

expatinscotland · 29/01/2008 21:07

What a nasty, horrid thread.

WHO notices stuff like this.

Quattrocento · 29/01/2008 21:10

I don't understand this thread.

People look scruffy in hospitals. Scruffier in hospitals than they do at weddings, in general.

This is because the patients are generally ill, and there is also a well-documented link between poverty and illness. The nurses and doctors are probably tired and have worked long hours and some of them will be underpaid.

Anyhow, what does it matter? It's not a beauty parade, is it?

cali · 29/01/2008 21:10

Boozy, just in case you are lurking, have a look on BBC1 now -Holby City is on and the nurses who "work" here are how I think you would like the rest of us to look. However this is fiction, if you would like to come and work with me for a day, then this can be arranged. Then you would see exactly where a nurses priorities lie. Do you think you could handle a 12.5 hour shift in a busy NICU where you may or may not get a break?

GetOrfMoiLand · 29/01/2008 21:11

Of course, if someone is injecting you with morphine you are going to notice they need their roots doing, or thier tunic could have done with a bit of an iron.

'Why are some NHS unkempt looking' In respnse to that I would say why are some mn posters completely narrow minded and rude.

cali · 29/01/2008 21:12

I'm with cheshirekitty, thanks to everyone who has supported us. Thankfully Boozy's opinions are in the minority.
