To return extra parcel?

Supposing you had placed an order for some chocolate from a lovely company and they accidentally sent you out double what you ordered... Would you keep or return the extra?

I'm thinking I will email them and let them know because, as tempting as it is to keep it, it just feels wrong. Even though it's their mistake, I feel like I'm hoarding stolen goods! Just curious what others would do?

YABU: it's their mistake, keep it! Who'd send back free chocolate?!

YANBU: of course you must return it, it's not yours if you haven't paid for it

Email them and let them know. Chances are they'll thank you for your honesty and tell them to keep them. (I don't imagine they could re-sell food, you could have done anything to it.)

You will then be able to enjoy them with a clear conscience.

Whitney168 · 08/11/2022 12:48

*tell YOU to keep them

StopFeckingFaffing · 08/11/2022 12:48

It's highly likely they will tell you to keep it so I would let them know to clear your conscience and cross your fingers

RainbowsMoonbeams · 08/11/2022 12:50

I had a company send me a ginormous box full of extra items by mistake last week - over £600 worth. I contacted them and they collected it.

Not sure what they would do with regards to food items though. I would tell them, but chances are they will write it off and give you it.

GiltEdges · 08/11/2022 12:51

It’s food and you’ve had it in your home, they’re almost certainly going to tell you to keep it. But I would definitely inform them.

BananaFluff · 08/11/2022 12:51

Contact them. They will probably tell you to keep it.

bloodyeverlastinghell · 08/11/2022 12:53

I’d email and tell themin case someone else didn’t get theirs. Chances are they won’t want to arrange to courier them back. I sometimes get chocolates from the highland chocolatier which are gorgeous. But the boxes aren’t cellophane wrapped or sealed just tied with a ribbon or the box has a magnetic closure. I don’t see how they could resell them, you could lick them all before returning 🤢

Isthatmcormac · 08/11/2022 12:58

They won’t be allowed to resell it. I’d still email them to clear my own conscience and hope they told me to keep it lol.

I once ordered a Black Friday GHD bundle from Very a couple of years ago. Straighteners, hair dryer, brush and spray etc. They sent me 2 sets by accident so I emailed them and they arranged a courier to collect. Courier didn’t arrive so I contacted them again and they told me just to keep it for the inconvenience 🤣

cherrysthename · 08/11/2022 13:04

I'd keep without a second thought tbh. I've arranged for collection of mistakenly delivered toys before, though. There were loads and I could see the customers' invoices for the goods so I wouldn't have even been tempted to keep those.

I’d email them as it’s food they will probably let you keep it.
I would always tell a small business and send items back if I could but I’ve had this happen to me with a high street clothing retailer and just kept the stuff, I wouldn’t inconvenience myself returning a parcel that they sent in error.

Riapia · 08/11/2022 13:26

It’s a well known fact that chocolate companies always split their orders between 2 packages.
Enjoy. 🤭😁😁😁😁

phishy · 08/11/2022 13:30

Just tell them, they will tell you to keep it.

No need for any drama.

Birdsofafeatherflocktogether · 08/11/2022 13:36

I had this once with face flannels

i ordered 6,which arrived

then a week later,another 6 and a few days later,another 6!

I contacted them about what to do with them as I’d ordered 6 and had 18-I simply didn’t need 18-and blow me,another 6 arrived in the time it took for them to get back in touch with me to tell me to send the extra ones back-at my own expense

I asked them to send me a label as I didn’t want to be out of pocket and got a snotty ‘no,you send them back on your own dime’

i reported this to eBay(I’d bought through them) and they told me to just keep them if the company refused to pay postage

im now the proud owner of 24 face flannels,in beige, and it turns out non of us like the texture so we don’t even use them!

I should be grateful they didn’t send anymore I guess

WonderingWanda · 08/11/2022 13:52

I just returned an item like this. I pent 30 mins on Web chat trying to organise a return that didn't involve a refund as they'd sent out double. Gor a returns label, sent it back, got an email the next day saying they'd processed my refund!

Plantmoretrees86 · 08/11/2022 14:53

Thanks for all your comments... Confirms my gut reaction! Have emailed them and will see what they say.
