Around a year ago I woke up with upper abdominal pain. The pain lasted for hours and it felt like I’d been punched in the guts. No other symptoms, no nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea. Didn’t have a recurrence for months and when I did it was the same again.

for some months now I’ve had a slight ache in my stomach at times which I haven’t taken much notice of and it hasn’t interfere with my day too much so didn’t think much of it. Then I started getting sulfur type burps after eating large meals.

Last week I had awful diarrhoea and stomach cramps, over 2 nights. Barely slept a wink and thought I’d had a bug however no one else was ill. Symptoms seemed to alleviate for a couple of days until last night where I was woken at 12:30 with awful upper abdominal cramps, stomach grumbling and burping. This lasted for 6 hours by which point it time to get up and get the kids ready for school. I tried Buscopan which didn’t help a jot, I tried taking Rennies which didn’t help. I’m literally sat writing this and trying not to fall asleep. I’ve been ok for most of the day until an hour ago where it’s been starting up again.

I’ve got a doctor’s appointment on Thursday and I know IBS will probably be suggested. What are other peoples thoughts? Thank you.

Could be Gallbladder, Hernia, Friday intolerance. You need to see a Dr as they will probably refer for a scan and/or gastroscopy.

*Food intolerance 😆

I hope they do offer me a scan and don’t just don’t me off with IBS. 😤😤

Had a better night last night however the cramps are awful again this morning. I have 2 toddlers who are jumping and climbing on me and it’s agony. I’m too busy for this shit!!! Just broken down to my husband about it. Feels like it’s never going to go away.

Where are the cramps? If its gallbladder area then it's worth going to A&E as a scan will only pick it up when there is a flare up.

Could be gastritis or coeliac - my niece used to have her symptoms overnight.

MThey’re in the centre of my upper abdomen, I thought gall bladder cramps were more to the right. After pressing on my stomach it isn’t sore on the right hand side so I dont think it my gallbladdero

Are you overweight/obese?

How large are these meals?

It might be an obesity related hiatus hernia, GORD, an ulcer or gallbladder

Try eating smaller, low fat meals - look up gallbladder diets

Allthestarsabovemyhead · 08/11/2022 14:41

Gastritis? I had it for 3 weeks the pain was awful and kept me up at night.

Peccary · 08/11/2022 14:45

DH has these symptoms, he's full of gallstones. Keep a food diary to see if there is a correlation with richer foods

user1488481370 · 08/11/2022 16:23

@Gingernaut Gingernaut I’m slightly overweight. To be honest even a dry piece of toast seems to trigger the cramps unfortunately 😢 whether that’s a gluten sensitivity thing I don’t know but I’ve never suffered with it before.

So, following on, everything returned to normal. I’ve had almost 3 weeks of near perfect bowel movements etc no cramps, no discomfort.
I started taking a course probiotics for the first time ever to help replenish the good bacteria in my gut. I stopped taking these about 5 days ago.

I came on my period on thursday, I usually have looser bowel movements when I’m on my period however today I’ve had full on diarrhoea, not smelly at all really, taken some Imodium and haven’t been to the toilet since however my stomach is growling and grumbling, not uncomfortable or in pain yet.

Have heard there’s a bug going around however I’ve not really been anywhere much over this last week so I’d have expected one of my children to have started being poorly before myself as they’ve been at school all week. I always figured that was how it worked.

I suffer from health anxiety and I’m worried it could be something sinister, I had bloods taken last week where they checked for coeliac disease which came back as negative, no blood in my stool sample, everything came back as satisfactory. Apart from mild anaemia, my bloods were fine

Ive wondered for a while whether I’m suffering from endometriosis. I know that diarrhoea can be a symptom, I also have very heavy periods and mid cycle pain although periods aren’t particularly painful. My mum also suffered with endo.

I don’t want to spend weeks at a time with cramps and diarrhoea. We’ve all been ill for weeks with one thing or another and I’m finding it so hard working, having small children, school runs and a house to keep with this on top. I just feel despair.

Did they do a stool sample to check your calprotectin levels? Could be IBD-

user1488481370 · 26/11/2022 16:15

They did a stood sample which came back as normal - I can only assume they checked that too.
