Tell me why you don't want to go to work tomorrow

BeatieBourke · 06/11/2022 23:45

It's Sunday night. It's gone 11. I should be in bed, getting some serious shut eye for a busy week at work.

But I'm not, because I can't quite bring myself to admit the weekend is over. I've had a great one, pottering in the garden, having a laugh with DS and DH, and getting out and about in the countryside.

My job is ok. It's a worthy pursuit, it helps people, is pretty aligned with my politics and has the potential to be pretty lucrative (by my standards). It's also stressful, quite lonely, and a HUGE responsibility.

We bought a van this weekend and plan to convert it into a camper. We're hoping to have a two week driving / camping holiday around France for my 40th next summer.

I don't want to go to work tomorrow. I just want to walk my dog, work on the van, and make tasty food.

Why don't you want to go to work in the morning?

GooglyEyeballs · 17/11/2022 17:50

I'm just. So. Tired.

Hotpinkangel19 · 17/11/2022 17:51

Because I'm so so tired, I'm caring for our children and my newly disabled DH. I desperately need to get some sleep.

Moraxella · 17/11/2022 17:52

I’m about to start hours 91-104 of night shift this week and it’s making my morning sickness 20x worse. I haven’t been able to sleep in the day as looking after my toddler. Next bedtime is 8pm tomo and I can’t wait!!

Cosycover · 17/11/2022 17:53

Because my boss was arsey with me yesterday and I hate that feeling!

Theconceptoftime · 17/11/2022 17:54

Because of after the first part of the day looking after a child with really difficult behaviour to then go on to the second part of the day looking after 60 4 year olds alone for the most part I am emotionally done right now.

I do love my job but the stress of staff shortages, dealing with difficult behaviour when there are few other staff around to go to if at all and stress from managing benefits when I get home from work is exhausting. I just have nothing left at the minute.

I don't always feel like this though. I do really appreciate getting to do a job I love mostly.

MistressWeatherwax1 · 17/11/2022 17:56

Because I'm being made redundant next month after 20 years from a job I adore and have no idea what direction to go in next.

AnApparitionQuipped · 17/11/2022 17:56

Because I want to stay in the nice warm cocoon of my duvet until it's light outside.

yepiamone · 17/11/2022 17:57

WatchoRulo · 17/11/2022 17:40

Because every single employer has half (or fewer) the number of employees they actually need to get the work done and not overload everyone and I'm sick of it always being like this.
Because I am not allowed any time to think anything through properly and neither are any colleagues which means things are at constant crisis point.

And my place. I am a civil servant and everyone seems to think we are over paid and underworked. Nothing could be further from the truth. We are 50% understaffed and getting busier because the top brass forgets that at the bottom are the plebs doing the fucking work whilst they just pile more and more on. 90% have voted to strike because we simply can't do it anymore.

Namechangerr1 · 17/11/2022 18:00

Those with wonderful jobs.. what do you do?

GravyDramas · 17/11/2022 18:02

I’m just SO bloody mentally drained and tired. My job is ridiculous - I’m doing about three peoples roles currently - and I leave work everyday completely frazzled and stressed out.

Im leaving at Christmas, to do something much less stressful, but just getting through my notice period is challenging. I congratulate myself for every day I get up in the dark and soldier on for another day. All I really want to do is stay in, potter about, nap and look after myself a bit.

mamaduckbone · 17/11/2022 18:05

Because I hate my commute in this horrible weather.
Because I've got a bad back and I could really do with a day resting it.
Because I'm overwhelmed with how much I need to do.
Because it was wet play today and I've come home with a banging headache.

giggly · 17/11/2022 18:09

Because I am 56 have worked since I was 18, full time nurse , single parent with 2dc one with a disability and a Disney dad.
I genuinely love my job but I’m gubbed, totally gubbed. I want 13 weeks annual leave like teachers get.

DontMakeMeDoIt90 · 17/11/2022 18:15

Because I have to submit my cost-cutting plan which essentially means list of people I have to let go and I can't do anything to prevent this from happening.

TheLostNights · 17/11/2022 18:18

This thread makes me so sad. Just how much we all dread work, it's upsetting that life has to be like this.

Christmaspumpkinseeds · 17/11/2022 18:19

Im 99% sure I have covid but have had a lot of time off with illnesses this year so feel bad ringing in sick and will push myself to struggle through working from home.

MrsToothyBitch · 17/11/2022 18:36

Because my line manager will finally be back and her moods are so unpredictable.

Softplayhooray · 17/11/2022 18:37

Those with wonderful jobs.. what do you do?

I set up my own company so can manage my own hours, don't have an nasty boss, can choose my contracts etc and because I jump from contract to contract, no office politics. It's pretty much ended my Sunday blues. For me that constitutes a dream job as for me a dream is basically freedom but I'll be honest, the pay is pretty average (although I can cover all my bills with a bit to add to savings, so I'm good with it!).

JustJustWhy · 17/11/2022 18:40

Because who wants to go and do anything that they HAVE to do rather than what they WANT to do?

Loobyloo68 · 17/11/2022 18:43

Because its given rain all day so I'll be soaked by the time I've finished a 10 mile postie round

IhateMattHancock · 17/11/2022 18:48

Because the heating is off and we are all very cold and sneezing.
One colleague has been wearing her coat and is now off sick so we're covering for her. Another colleague is on week 4 of sick leave for lingering effects of burnout last summer. Hmmm

Ditto. Firefighting just before the next thing falls over.

Phos · 17/11/2022 19:21

Because I took a 6 month secondment almost 2 years ago which was made permanent without even consulting me and I'm bored out of my mind and feel completely trapped.

roarfeckingroarr · 17/11/2022 19:24

Because I'm 30 weeks pregnant and just can't be arsed with people.

But I work from home mostly and will do so from my sofa. My day isn't too taxing tomorrow.

Winterfires · 17/11/2022 19:29

Because people swear at me on a daily basis

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 17/11/2022 19:37

Because I wanted to go for an early swim in the sea but now I have to travel to the office...
