Farting during dinner?

Twinboymum2010 · 06/11/2022 22:07

Am i being unreasonable to find it absolutely disgusting and repulsive when my partner farts while eating?
yesterday he did it during breakfast and it smelt so bad it made me gag and put me right off my food
today i spent 3 hours doing a roast dinner, sat down and politely asked him to not fart during dinner, no exaggeration less than a minute after we sat down he farted and it smelt horrific, put me right off my dinner
i ended up going in another room to eat and he had such a tantrum and threatened to leave
am i the one being unreasonable?

3 hours to cook a roast dinner ?!

LisaD1 · 06/11/2022 22:09

He’s disgusting. I’d not cook for him again.

Yeah, I think I'd fart too.

PinkSyCo · 06/11/2022 22:12

Your husband’s an ignorant pig and you’re a very slow cook.

vodkaredbullgirl · 06/11/2022 22:14

😐

GeorgiaGK · 06/11/2022 22:14

You're not being unreasonable. I hate farts and also move to another room if anyone farts near me 🤣🤣

I think you’re very well aware and don’t need confirmation from MN that unleashing a huge toxic fart when other people are eating is both disgusting and unbelievably disrespectful. I think the more relevant question is, why the fuck are you putting up with this level of disrespect, and more over, how the fuck can you possibly find this repulsiv pig attractive?

To be fair, she didn't say she found him attractive.

We are quite a farty family and it wouldn’t be unusual for someone to let go of a small one at the table but not a smelly one and there would be apologising for even a little one. It wouldn’t be purposeful i think is the point but then no one would be cross or flounce if it did happen.
We do however all fart the rest of the time fairly freely. I appreciate this makes us a bit unusual.

userxx · 06/11/2022 22:32

Nasty. If he desperately needed to fart then leave the fucking room.

Cinders88 · 06/11/2022 22:36

DH’s family have always been rather open about farting, and they don’t have an issue with letting rip around each other or food, etc. Me, not so much.

I accept everyone has to fart, but I find it quite disrespectful when people purposefully do it near me or my food. I don’t want to bask in someone else’s fart stench! It offends me.

DH now leaves the room to fart ❤️ it took some complaining from me, but we got there in the end 😋

Breziegrass · 06/11/2022 22:39

Sounds like he has intolerance to some foods if he farts like that. Tell him to sort his shit out 🤣

Other than that doing it while your eating is pretty vile, sounds like a dick. I could not put up with that.

qpmz · 06/11/2022 22:42

What he does is grim so why would you 'politely ask' him not to fart?' 'hi babe, please can you refrain from passing wind whilst we eat?' Instead of: 'Stop farting, it stinks!' Being politely asked to do anything by someone close to you is very irritating and uptight. Be more direct!

froufroulala · 06/11/2022 22:42

I have to be honest I have never been in that situation. I would be revolted. How ever my df in an effort to avoid my dm directed a prolonged burp in my face as we all ate dinner. I barfed all over my dinner and got walloped. LTB

Confusedmeanderings · 06/11/2022 22:48

Good job you're not living with me! I'm currently on a new drug to help prevent breast cancer returning and its playing havoc with my digestive system! I now fart very loudly with no prior warning, so no chance to remove myself from polite company and no hope of it not being noticed! I have to just style it out. Not so terrible at home but very embarrassing when I'm out and about!

This is a solid MN response Grin

You never made pulled pork?

ChildrenOfTheQuorn · 06/11/2022 22:56

Disgusting. He has no respect for you.

I was about to challenge some of these replies which are just screaming health privilege. It's literally the same as when someone has to sneeze, cough or blow their nose without warning and people calling that disgusting.

mackthepony · 07/11/2022 01:05

3 hours is average, no?

Did you do a pudding, op

Watchkeys · 07/11/2022 01:09

A tantrum? He threatened to leave? It doesn't matter what it's about; you can't have a healthy adult relationship with someone who uses these behaviours.

Leave anyone who threatens to leave.

Roasting meat takes 1.5 hr, everything else can be done in the meantime, including pudding.

Was the fart an accident or did he do it to purposefully disrespect your wishes?

howdoyougethingsdone · 07/11/2022 02:47

Gross.

That would give me the ick and he'd literally no longer be my husband!

You must cook very small joints!
