He is almost 21 and is in 2nd year of university and currently doesn't work as he is busy with studies. He lives off student loan and gets supplemented by me and his dad.
He is forever buying clothes and he has that many he is running out of space and can't possibly wear them all and alot are not cheap either.
His dad has started saying he is obsessed with clothes and has a problem that needs sorting.
What you think are they all like this and are we overreacting.

He’s adult. He can spend his money however he likes even if he’s wrong and wasting it. Unfortunately the only thing you can do is tell him that you think he’s getting a bit obsessed but don’t go on about it too him as he’ll most likely just push back. When he gets older and matures he’ll realise how much money he’s wasted but that’s a life lesson he needs to learn.

There is such a thing as addiction to shopping, and impulse buying can also be a sign of someone with ADHD who is struggling.

He may technically be an adult, but as a family member I would be concerned and see if I could get to the bottom of what is going on.

They are not all like this, this is not a phase.

Stop supplementing him, if all he does is waste it.

They aren't all like that, my dbruv was the opposite, he had to be persuaded that he needed new jeans or a new sweatshirt. He liked getting socks for xmas because he could never be bothered to buy them himself.

My ds doesn't care what he has as long as he finds something that fits when he opens the drawer.

Well the other thing you can do is stop supplementing, if he doesn't actually need the money but wastes it on clothes.

Has he got too much money? (........but at least he's not spending it on drugs, alcohol, gambling............or........)
