DH using dirty laundry to blow his nos.

SnotRag22 · 05/11/2022 15:40

DH will reach into the dirty washing basket, pull out an item of clothing, towel or bedsheet, whatever is in there and comes to hand, and blow his nose. Proper snot fest.

He's had a cold this week so it's been constant, despite asking him not to as it turns my stomach.

His stinking wet gym stuff is bad enough without going to put a load on and getting a handful of mucus.

He thinks it's fine because it's going in the wash anyway. I think it's fucking gross.

It's wound me up today because I bought a box of tissues and put them next to the washing basket, and he's taken them and put these upstairs.

Am I being uptight and unreasonable?

(Full disclosure, I can get a bit funny about germs, bodily fluids etc . I am a bit of a serial hand washer and can have sensory overload to things like this.)

When we used cotton hankies they were more for just a quick wipe if it was a bit runny.

Preferably tissues/toilet paper for a full on blow.

Definitely tissues/toilet paper for a snotty cold!

OohMrBingley · 05/11/2022 17:03

My Dad used cotton handkerchiefs. They were put in a separate laundry bag that hung in his wardrobe, and he washed them himself.

Everyday I'm grateful to not be shackled to a marriage.

IntrovertedPenguin · 05/11/2022 17:17

🤮🤮🤮🤮

One of the vilest things I've read on here. Please tell me he's some kind of millionaire?

VladmirsPoutine · 05/11/2022 17:14

Everyday I'm grateful to not be shackled to a marriage.

Only a small sub-set of clueless types actually do this, thankfully.

OP - this is easily fixed, you do realise, right?

catinboots123 · 05/11/2022 17:19

Sorry WHAT?

And I'm a disgusting bastard. I use the long haired cat to dust the telly

OneFootintheRave · 05/11/2022 17:22

Well if I have a streaming cold I do this. I get a thin soft T shirt out of the wash and use it. It's big, does not have scratchy fibres to make my nose red and will be used again rather than be disposed of. I do my own washing though.

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/11/2022 17:26

Put all his clothes and the offending item on a 90°c wash so that everything shrinks. That'll teach him!

jonesy1999 · 05/11/2022 16:57

Why would your pants be shit stained?

I'd say that's far worse, but a bit of snot is the most disgusting thing you've ever heard?

Horses for courses, as they say.

I'm crying 😭😭

PoseyFlump · 05/11/2022 20:28

Can't get that image out of my head now 😂

mamabear715 · 05/11/2022 15:46

I'd buy a box of tissues for EVERY room..

Yeah, let's kill some trees because OP is uptight. I do what her DH does, it's all going to be washed anyway

ProFannyTea · 05/11/2022 20:37

Hopefully he's really good looking. Nothing else would convince me to remain with someone that gross lol

SnarkyBag · 05/11/2022 20:39

Start wiping your arse on the dirty laundry that will probably do the trick to stop the dirty pig.

Pollywoddles · 05/11/2022 20:43

Wtf have I just read? Jesus wept.

More fool you for continuing to do the washing. I’d go on strike until he learned not to blow his nose on it and then I’d be sure that he was doing at least half the loads.

littlecontis · 05/11/2022 20:45

Really disgusting

ChocolateCinderToffee · 05/11/2022 20:45

I'd buy him two dozen cotton hankies for Christmas!

Winterscomingagain · 05/11/2022 20:56

I know a man who used to do this all the time, his son begged him not to it any more when he went to school one day and realized there was a residue of snot on his school sweater.
It's just so many levels of disgusting that it's hard to express.

Katemax82 · 05/11/2022 21:45

I do this myself...

SnotRag22 · 05/11/2022 22:09

SparklyFoot · 05/11/2022 16:03

Surely if you're concerned about germs you wash hands after handling dirty laundry anyway?

It's not just germs though, it's gross generally. Tshirts aren't meant to have their nose blown on. Not as a grown up anyway.

Oh god I’ve heard it all now. Why are cloth handkerchiefs so disgusting?! I’m sure ALL baby clothes through the wash have snot on at times. And do you not put underwear in the washing machine??? You know clothes that have sat near arses?! Or do they need to be boiled in a separate pan before washing too?!!!!!! And that’s before we start on cloth nappies and reusable wipes.

Handkerchiefs go in the normal wash here, granted 40 but no boil wash. A capful of antibacterial washing solution if anyone has a cold etc.

mumsnet….the only place where the environment is key, disposables are vilified and reusables championed…until someone mentions a handkerchief and then they are spoken about as if positively caveman. Bonkers.

We have handkerchiefs and old mussies from when DC was a baby, DC prefers them, DH doesn't. Environmentally, I'd rather use reusables. Which is sort of what Dh is doing, just not in the way I'd want.

Mummbles · 05/11/2022 22:22

That is absolutely disgusting. I would absolutely do it though. But not with washing someone else was putting on. In our relationship, if I were putting on a wash and got a handful of DH’s snot then I would find him and wipe it on his arm, no regrets. I would fully expect him to do the same.

Presumably you don’t expect other people to manhandle your snot….?

As always, Mumsnet is a window into another world…

@OneFootintheRave

i do a similar thing if I have a streaming cold, my nose gets so sore, so fast with tissues. I prefer the soft cotton if a well worn t shirt to the cotton used in Hankies.

the difference is that we're doing our own washing, not snorting on other peoples clothes & leaving it in the laundry basket for someone else to deal with.

I think we're ok 😀

BMW6 · 08/03/2023 11:51

Well going by your DH's logic (and endorsed by some posters on here) why not keep your laundry basket in the loo and use dirty clothes to wipe your bum after a shit or piss?

After all, its going to be washed anyway?

Blort · 08/03/2023 11:54

The title is enough to make me sick in my mouth. I suppose I should go and vomit in the wash basket? Absolutely revolting. If he didnt stop I would genuinely LTB.
