DH using dirty laundry to blow his nos.

SnotRag22 · 05/11/2022 15:40

DH will reach into the dirty washing basket, pull out an item of clothing, towel or bedsheet, whatever is in there and comes to hand, and blow his nose. Proper snot fest.

He's had a cold this week so it's been constant, despite asking him not to as it turns my stomach.

His stinking wet gym stuff is bad enough without going to put a load on and getting a handful of mucus.

He thinks it's fine because it's going in the wash anyway. I think it's fucking gross.

It's wound me up today because I bought a box of tissues and put them next to the washing basket, and he's taken them and put these upstairs.

Am I being uptight and unreasonable?

(Full disclosure, I can get a bit funny about germs, bodily fluids etc . I am a bit of a serial hand washer and can have sensory overload to things like this.)

Please say that you never do his washing. If so, just refuse from now on. What he does is gross and disgusting, and frankly unkind to you because of your issues. If he wont stop - he is being perverse anyway if there are tissues there - he does all his own laundry and you do yours separately. There is no way I would share my washing with his in this situation.

Why is everyone blithely talking about cloth handkerchiefs as if they're not fucking gross too?! We have tissues now, it's not the 19th century.

I know! For those who don't have an issue with what her dh is doing, would you do it? If not why not?

HotPenguin · 05/11/2022 16:13

This is the most disgusting thing I have read on here, please offer him a pair of shit-stained period pants next time he wants to do this.

PinkSyCo · 05/11/2022 16:14

Your husband is a filthy pig. LTB.

oviraptor21 · 05/11/2022 15:50

On the basis that cloth handkerchiefs go in the wash and this isn't really a lot different, I'm saying yabu.

Cloth handkerchiefs should also be banned imo. Filthy and disgusting much like the OP's husband. Envy

LikeTearsInRain · 05/11/2022 16:15

What a dirty disgusting man. Does he have any other vile, unhygienic habits?

Cw112 · 05/11/2022 16:15

Easy solution for this absolute dirtbird. You get two laundry baskets and you do your washing and he is responsible for his own. That's vile and no way is it reasonable for him to expect you to reach in and touch that after he's blown his nose on it. Dh wouldn't even put his football stuff in the laundry basket, it goes straight in the machine so I don't need to touch it. Basic decency.

Theoldwoman · 05/11/2022 16:16

This would be the most disgusting habit I have dread on here.

milti · 05/11/2022 16:19

😂😂😂

BMW6 · 05/11/2022 16:19

Weird AND gross. Why won't he just use tissue or loo roll like a rational human being?

I thought I'd heard it all........... 😟

Iamgu · 05/11/2022 16:20

I am guilty of this, but I do my washing and don't have others handling it!

SnowFairyWaxMelt · 05/11/2022 16:24

I’m with @Iamgu i love blowing my nose on my dirty washing. It’s up there with peeing in the shower for me. I do my own washing though nobody else touches it.

Doesn't mean he'll only blow his nose on items in his own basket. Sounds like he just grabs whatever is to hand/closest which may not even be his 🤢

fannyfartlet · 05/11/2022 16:25

At least it's not clean washing😂

CoveredInCobwebs · 05/11/2022 16:26

Well, we often use muslins for snotty noses and put them in the wash so to be honest I probably wouldn't care about this that much. But I don't really care about snot and that sort of thing, and you do OP, and if you're doing the washing then it's fair enough if you don't want snot in the washing! (Why doesn't he just do the washing?!)

mathanxiety · 05/11/2022 16:30

Tell me he does all the laundry in your house??

If he honestly expects you to stick your hand into the jacket and com up with a snot coated Tshirt he is being beyond unreasonable.

So gross.

CarefreeMe · 05/11/2022 16:42

I do think it’s grim but no different to muslins or handkerchiefs which are much better for the environment and cost less than tissue.

Just get him to do the washing instead.

thinkingalways · 05/11/2022 16:43

Oh god I’ve heard it all now. Why are cloth handkerchiefs so disgusting?! I’m sure ALL baby clothes through the wash have snot on at times. And do you not put underwear in the washing machine??? You know clothes that have sat near arses?! Or do they need to be boiled in a separate pan before washing too?!!!!!! And that’s before we start on cloth nappies and reusable wipes.

Handkerchiefs go in the normal wash here, granted 40 but no boil wash. A capful of antibacterial washing solution if anyone has a cold etc.

mumsnet….the only place where the environment is key, disposables are vilified and reusables championed…until someone mentions a handkerchief and then they are spoken about as if positively caveman. Bonkers.

Seaweasel · 05/11/2022 16:50

@SnowFairyWaxMelt @Iamgu Phew, I thought it was just me! We are the saviours of the planet with our sensible use of resources.

OohMrBingley · 05/11/2022 16:55

Blowing your nose on other people’s clothes is disgusting, as is leaving someone else to manhandle your mucus.

This isn’t up for debate.

Stop washing his clothes.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 05/11/2022 16:55

That's disgusting. There's some dirty bastards around

jonesy1999 · 05/11/2022 16:55

Probably a bit grim to watch him do it, but I also see his logic.

Blowyourowntrumpet · 05/11/2022 16:56

I've done this, but only when I'm just about to put the item in the wash anyway 🤢

OohMrBingley · 05/11/2022 16:56

Sorry - can someone please explain ‘the logic’ of leaving your mucus for someone to grapple with…?

jonesy1999 · 05/11/2022 16:57

HotPenguin · 05/11/2022 16:13

This is the most disgusting thing I have read on here, please offer him a pair of shit-stained period pants next time he wants to do this.

Why would your pants be shit stained?

I'd say that's far worse, but a bit of snot is the most disgusting thing you've ever heard?

Horses for courses, as they say.
