Some of these replies 🙄🙄🙄 ffs if you are so exhausted that you feel like you need a day off to yourself, take it. The alternative is you keep going until you burn out then you're off for months. What will the jobsworths on this thread have to say then? If you don't take a break then your body will take one for you. Enjoy your day off x

sallbroken · 05/11/2022 21:37

Amen to @Animallover87

OP - ignore all these martyrs and take a day off for a 'stomach bug.' Hell, take two or three. The world won't end and you'll get a rest. (I'm a teacher - I get it).

Agreed!

Teachers think they are the only people who work for a living & make the most fuss about it!

Rubbish. Total exaggeration.

I knew someone would comment this. Not at all, regardless of the job I would still give OP the same advice. Work is not everything. Things will carry on. One day won't make a difference in the grand scheme of things but will make a huge difference to getting u rested

Bettyboop3 · 05/11/2022 22:08

Glad i didn't disappoint you then. Evenings and weekends are for resting. Having a toddler with a father that won't step up is not a reason to not go to work when expected.

ThrallsWife · 05/11/2022 22:15

People taking days off when they're not needed for actual sickness is the whole reason why we have such ridiculous attendance targets, which won't bend even when the absence is actually needed.

A colleague just went back to work after an accident when they really shouldn't have, were in for a few days and then off again as they were in too much pain. They're now on attendance monitoring. It does all come back to people who take the piss.

And sadly, this is also why so many jobs won't pay sick pay for the first day or two.

TitaniasAss · 05/11/2022 22:22

I had a colleague do this every month or so. It was a fucking nightmare for me and caused me so much stress. But hey, 'go for it hun' seems to be the advice of some, regardless of the effect it may have on anyone else.

What utter bollocks.

Bettyboop3 · 05/11/2022 22:24

But hey who cares as long as the selfish twats get a day off to laze around and watch daytime crap tv. Beats me!!

So you're not a single parent, you only work part-time, you get about 12 weeks off a year and you send your child to nursery when you're on leave. But you want to throw a sickie because you're tired? Grow up.

Totally agree.

No bollocks. Teachers also had the longest break during covid lockdown whilst early years practitioners soldiered on even though it's so much harder/impossible to socially distance from 0-4 year olds and yet again teachers made the biggest fuss.

marmitegirl01 · 05/11/2022 22:48

Teachers and school staff did not have a break thru covid!!!!

KarmaStar · 05/11/2022 22:49

Perhaps address,if you can, your work and life balance as you can't carry on indefinitely feeling like this.
Don't jeopardise your job or self esteem by skiving but definitely do something nice for yourself💐🌈

Pinkychilla · 06/11/2022 04:43

I can't believe people are saying your lazy, you are at burnout stage and need a day or two for mental health that is not going to effect your job and I'm sure your colleagues would do the same and rather you did that than end up being unwell and needing to be signed off sick long term. People are not robots having a two year old is relentless and teaching looks such a hard job always having to be on top from never getting to switch off. You should 100 percent take one or two days off sick just say upset tummy or something and recharge and rest , your mental health and you are so important if your not feeling mentally well you can't help others/do your job properly sounds like it's just what you need to recharge, or alternatively you could actually say to your employer that your completely burnt out mentally and need to be off for a couple of days or get signed off by your GP if you need it, mental health is important YOU are important why is it seen as lazy/weak to feel like this? But it's ok to be physically ill? We all need to look after our mental health too before we end up completely burnt out effecting family life and being unable to work at all take care OP and please put you and your mental health first 💐

dcadmamagain · 06/11/2022 05:35

Having read the thread I would say take at least a day off. You work in a highly stressful demanding job and if you don’t recharge you could end up off for much longer.

take it have a duvet day and recharge your batteries

SMrs · 06/11/2022 08:14

Your mental health is important too! Do it, it won't hurt

You are absolutely not unreasonable for wanting a day off lol. Also if you're exhausted, and it's making you feel unwell, take a sick day. What you're suggesting isn't really 'pulling a sickie'. Pulling a sickie is feeling fine and having a day to spend drinking / doing something fun / etc.

amazed at the people who are so outraged by this (ONE day off as a total exception). I'm pretty sure some workplaces have the possibility of staff taking a 'mental health day' exactly because taking preventative action (ie day off when beyond exhausted) is likely to prevent longer term sickness.

Teaching (and indeed any job that requires you to be 'on' for all your hours when you are there (retail, care work, medicine, social work) is brutal. I hope things feel easier soon

The difference being in retail (I'm in a pharmacy) you don't get paid if you pull a sickie... you have to take more than 3 days off to get paid SSP.

The only people who have the odd day off seem to be those who get paid whilst doing so.

The schools closing and stressed parents, many of whom were actually still working, trying to home school their children was all just a figment of my imagination was it? Then the fuss and drama they caused when they were told to get back to work!!

No 😂

and only four weeks until the next long holiday - what? 7 weeks.

And what?
Most of us, having kids as well, working as well and don't have holidays almost every month.👏

Schools were never fully closed 🤯

TheGoogleMum · 06/11/2022 12:07

I definitely wouldn't do this if I've had enough genuine illness that I'd be questioned about it at work, but I don't think it's unreasonable to consider it otherwise as a one off...
