Bug infested room? LL won’t help

Hi all,

i rent a flat from a landlord and have been here for approximately 2 months now.

It’s been hell, and i’m convinced there’s a nest somewhere in the flat. My bedroom, gets about a dozen large spiders a week, no shit, they’re everywhere. They climb past my head when i’m working, hover under my bedside table, dangle down from the fucking ceiling.

That’s not all, i have silverfish too. Disgusting things that also climb my walls, and now found one crawling in my bed. One crawled on my lap this evening. I’m at my wit’s end with it all now, I want a bug free bedroom without shit crawling on me and it’s crossing the line reaching into my bed.

My landlord does nothing. I’ve written countless emails and he replies “it’s nature, just deal with it” I live on the ground floor and have a single fucking bush outside my window.

There was also mildew all on my walls the LL refused to clean and told me to clean myself, so i did.

What the hell do i do? I feel so fobbed off with it all. Any laws or action i can take? Should i just suck it up?

Jesus, that sounds horrendous! Keep pestering him?? See if the council can do anything? Move out?!

In the short term can you sleep and work elsewhere in a different room?

GirlInterrupted · 04/11/2022 23:49

Sounds horrible, that would freak the shit out of me! Can you go around the bedroom with sealant. Around the window frame, skirting boards, everything?

It sounds like LL is not going to be much help, so I would just roll up the sleeves and get it sorted myself rather than living like that.

dementedpixie · 04/11/2022 23:50

I wonder if Indorex would kill all your bugs

Genuinely, why do you continue to live there? You are living in awful conditions and your landlord isn't going to help you. Does it not make the most sense if you just move out? However, be very careful you don't inadvertently bring silverfish with you to your new place in your belongings.

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 05/11/2022 12:26

I could be wrong but I think silverfish are attracted by damp conditions. They are creepy little fuckers.

Personally I would remove and wash all fabrics, get as much out of there as poss and treat the whole room with an appropriate bug spray and stay out for the night. When you return hoover everything and thoroughly clean. Damp traps may also help.

Keep receipts and take pics of the problem and your attempts to resolve. That should sort it but If it persists you'll be in a better position to insist the landlord gets pest control out.

hedgehoglurker · 05/11/2022 12:39

You can use ant powder anywhere you think the silverfish are getting in. Indorex (a very good flea spray for the home) would work well too. Hopefully a good dose will treat any infestations.

emptythelitterbox · 05/11/2022 12:40

Set off a bug fogger in there.

MrsMoastyToasty · 05/11/2022 13:36

Email your landlord something like this

Dear Landlord

I recently reported an infestation of silverfish. From my research I have discovered that they are attracted by damp conditions. I would like you to investigate, treat the damp and eradicate the silverfish within 14 days.
I know that the fabric of the building is your responsibility and I am sure you would appreciate being informed of such problems before they become a larger issue and your financial investment in the property is jeopardised.

Regards

Fed.
