About 3 years ago I ordered a home STI test from a company. I was newly with my now dh and just wanted to check all was ok.
Tonight I've had a text from an unknown number along the lines of 'thanks for ordering your sti test if you need any assistance our opening hours are xxxx from (name of company)'

Why would this be sent so long after? I'm so worried they've resent the kit in error because I've since moved and sold my old house to someone I know! So if it went there and they open it...wtf! Am I right to be concerned? Anyone else had this? What would I even do if they had resent it? I'm freaking out a bit.

If you know them, wouldn’t they just text you to say they’d received a package for you, rather than just opening it?

Also, if I opened a package like that it wouldn’t affect my view of the person who ordered it.

It's just a marketing text, annoying, possibly embarrassing but unless you tell anyone who's going to know.? Was there an option to unsubscribe from future texts?

confuseddotcom25 · 04/11/2022 20:13

I don't know them well. It's more of a friend of a friend scenario. I'd be mortified if they did open it and found that!!

I don't think it was marketing because it said something like 'how are you finding your kit?' But quoted the exact one I ordered. It's really bad because it came up as a text on my Home Screen - imagine if dh saw that. He'd probably be wondering what the hell id been up to!

Is it not a data breech or something?

It could be a technical error where the usual follow up text has been sent out to everyone who ever bought a kit rather than everyone who ordered in the last 4 days (or whatever).

How is it a data breach?

confuseddotcom25 · 04/11/2022 20:51

@madnesss maybe not a data breech but a serious fuck up to send something of this nature when it wasn't requested and after so much time has passed. I'd argue it's not appropriate to send texts worded in that way too. Even if the test had been requested it's not discreet to have a text like that ping through unexpectedly.

I reckon the systems gone haywire and auto sent out the messages. Though they shouldn't still hold your data after so long.
