To ask you what the name of this type of tableware is?

Does anyone know what the tableware is called (if indeed it's called anything) which is usually blue sort of intricate drawings on the plates?

I know they used to be given as wedding presents years ago and our one posh aunt only brought them out on special occasions. I hated them at the time (about 40 years ago) as they were fussy and I always felt that you couldn't quite see what you were eating lol.

Now however, I've had a change of heart coupled with a touch of nostalgia. I yearn for a simpler time when the fine china was brought out and the chipped mugs were only used by family. But I can't for the life of me know what to google in order to find them! They may been a common style or they may have been a particular brand?

Blue willow?

BatshitBanshee · 04/11/2022 09:40

Churchill Blue Willow?

SalviaOfficinalis · 04/11/2022 09:40

Willow pattern

TheNosehasit · 04/11/2022 09:40

We had one plate only which must have arriving bearing gifts at some point and which my mother failed to return to said posh aunt. We had to be very careful not to display it when said aunt visited!

I was curious to what you meant so searched Google “blue designs on plates” and it came up with a lot of photos of Blue Willow

TheNosehasit · 04/11/2022 09:41

Ye're geniuses! They're the boys!

Thank you. Now I'm off to sicken myself at the price of them.

i know what you mean! I go to charity shops and see patterns I remember from my childhood and I drift off on a cloud of memories.

Worth keeping an eye out in charity shops for pieces

Laska2Meryls · 04/11/2022 09:43

Was it a blue plate with raised white design? They were often given as wedding and other special gifts . If so, they were Wedgewood

SalviaOfficinalis · 04/11/2022 09:43

Definitely look on eBay

TheNosehasit · 04/11/2022 09:46

It was definitely the Churchill Blue Willow which my aunt had a full set of (including items other than the plates), minus the one my DM shamelessly cherished lol.

I think it was only used for special occasions as she didn't like putting them in the dishwasher.

My mum has 2 of these plates.
The story goes my nana had saved stamps or tokens or something to get the full collection.
She got it brought it home, washed it. It was on the draining board and the cat jumped up and knocked it all flying. Smashed the lot except 2 plates. 😬

Me too! However, I'm very much of my era with a minimalist home decor so they would most probably look very out of place in my home. But I wants them!!!

That would enough grounds to rehome a cat! 😆

I like a full set of everything and when one item from a set gets broken, every single time that I open the cupboard I feel stressed that something is missing lol.

Charity shops are full of it!

Quinque · 04/11/2022 10:01

Willow pattern is classic and has been made by several different potteries, Wedgwood, Spode, Burleigh, Churchill etc.
Ebay has loads and they're often in charity shops, it would be easy to build up a set.

rosegoldwatcher · 04/11/2022 10:01

My nana had that exact same pattern.

Ebay shows 2000+ results and Facebook market place has pages of it.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 04/11/2022 10:06

Nostalgia indeed!

Not Willow Pattern, but the crockery pattern of my childhood (Mid Winter) is in a museum in York.

eddiemairswife · 04/11/2022 10:08

My Grandma's cat's bowl was Willow Pattern.

SoupDragon · 04/11/2022 10:11

This is the pattern of my childhood "best" dinner service. I've only ever seen it in a charity shop once.
