To warn about text scams

I just received this, very convincing but 100% scam.

Hi mum. I've damaged my phone so save my new number just until I get it repaired at phone shop. Message me on 07xxxxxxxxx and let me know when you've saved it xx

Yes that's a clear scam, they're just fishing to find which phone numbers are active.

If someone damages their phone they'll normally have the sense to take the sim card out before they send it for repair. They'll put the sim card in their new temporary burner phone. They'll have the same number.

If you wanted to check, you could dial 141 and then the number. This would withhold your number and find out whether it's really your child's voice answering.

Very convincing?

God I can see why suckers are reeled in if there are people who can sit there and say this is convincing
