Annual leave / Sickness

Shiningstarr · 03/11/2022 23:19

I'm on a well deserved 2 week break from work. Since my leave commenced I've been really poorly, but as I didn't have much planned for my leave, I'm happy just resting at home.

Am I obliged to let work know I've been sick?

Why would you be obliged to let them know Confused

Because I thought you couldn't be sick on annual leave, unless I'm mistaken.

Not obliged but I think at some places you can reclaim the annual leave, and have this as sick leave instead.

If you don't mind using the annual leave even though your sick, do nothing. If you want to change annual to sick leave and recover some of the time to take another time, let them know.

My employer would ask for a Drs line to claim back annual leave as sick leave. You couldn't just self-cert for a week.

RedRosie · 03/11/2022 23:26

Where I work (public sector), you can reclaim annual leave. But only with a fit note from the GP. You cannot self cert.

Fab thanks everyone.

I'm not going to be claiming back my annual leave, I'm happy leaving it as it is. I just wondered what others thought.
