To not isolate after testing positive for covid?

No idea what the rules are these days but I've just tested positive. Should I stay in the house or continue to go about my daily life, symptoms permitting?!

If at all possible people should use home deliveries. But I do get that everyone's circumstances are different and sometimes things just aren't possible. That's why I said the OP should only go out when necessary. What I meant was that they shouldn't be carrying on as normal, socialising, popping out when not needed etc. I think at this point we all have to the best we can not to infect others. What is possible will vary from person to person I guess.

My auntie ended up on a ventilator with covid and is now permanently disabled… she was not vulnerable or elderly in any way, and my grandfather who was having radio and chemotherapy and was extremely clinically vulnerable at the time that he had it only had a mild cough and lost his sense of smell. There’s no telling how it will affect people, we all have busy lives and cannot put them on hold for days at a time, we had 2 years of that. If you feel rough, stay home and rest, if you feel well enough, carry on.
All of us have had the opportunity to protect ourselves from serious disease, and while not everyone has or has been able to act on that opportunity, it was put in place to allow us to return to our ‘normal’ lives.
Even if you do choose to isolate, 5 days is usually ample, a positive test doesn’t mean you’re still infectious. I had covid last year, isolated for the required 14 days, was asked in work to do a LFT a week after coming out of isolation, said I’ve recently had covid but was told that doesn’t matter and still tested positive!

A positive lateral flow test does mean you are likely to be infectious.

Not everyone has had the opportunity to be vaccinated.

I understand that people may not be able to isolate completely but to socialise unnecessarily when infectious would be selfish.

I can't believe you have a close family member who has been left disabled and your take home from that is 'hard luck'.

For me the worst thing about covid is that it has revealed how little people care about each other.

My youngest has tested positive for COVID again today and will still be going to work.
I'm not testing, nor is DH and we will still be going to work.
There's no reason not to.

Ask yourself OP - what would you say to a work colleague who tested positive and shared an office with you?

@LolaBlue36

stay at home and test daily after day 5
took me 14 days

This isn’t the rules though OP. NHS says ‘most people do not need to test’. If you do though, they say to try to stay home for 5 days. NHS no longer mentions testing to go back out again. Many work places (I know definitely not all though!) now ask people to keep going in if they feel ok to. They have done for months now. It’s really up to you.

It’s a shame some people are so rude in their responses to your question.

I was still testing positive 10 days after initially testing positive. 5 days is a crock.

I would certainly try to avoid anyone vulnerable. Unfortunately there are quite a few vulnerable who don't look vulnerable so I'd stay back from anyone unless necessary.
