To not isolate after testing positive for covid?

LolaBlue36 · 03/11/2022 11:36

No idea what the rules are these days but I've just tested positive. Should I stay in the house or continue to go about my daily life, symptoms permitting?!

YABU and extremely selfish

People are still testing? And isolating?

The obsession continues.

I don't call doing a quick test before I visit my vulnerable relative in a care home obsessed.
And if I do test positive I will minimise my contact with others. I'm able to do so and it seems sensible, not obsessed.
For all of time people have been courteous if they have a cold, and given house guests a heads up, or avoided visiting the vulnerable if they think they've been in contact with someone who's had D&V. It's not obsessed to show a little care.

Same-I only test before visiting my elderly and vulnerable grandparents. My gran is 87 and asthmatic, and my grandad is on drugs which suppress his immune system. I adore them and would never forgive myself if I passed anything on to them.

Whowhatwherewhenwhy1 · 04/11/2022 02:48

We are all sick of covid but you may feel well and shake it off easily with few symptoms but by not isolating you could infect someone like my child for whom covid would more likely than not be fatal.

muttondressedasmutton1 · 04/11/2022 12:18

I've tested positive today, and I personally will be isolating for at least 5 days.
There are still vulnerable people who would get very very poorly if they catch it.
I would feel terrible knowing I've got it, and not been careful to stay away from others

AnaJeff · 04/11/2022 12:20

I wouldn't isolate eg would still go to the shops but would wear a mask. If i was meeting family/friends at their house, i would probably rearrange. There is no need to isolate these days

AnaJeff · 04/11/2022 12:22

Just to add, i do not have any tests and wouldn't test myself these days. Ive had a cold recently so who knows if ive been a super spreader 😜

Yes, why wouldn't you. Don't you give a shit about anyone else but yourself?

Not an obsession, just didn't want to give Covid to anyone else.

My work has compulsory 5 days out of the office for Covid so there’s no option to go in there. Apart from that I’d still go out for stuff like dog walks and food shopping. I live by myself so still need to get supplies.

I wouldn’t do stuff like visit family or go out to the pub or for meals. Recently had a non Covid virus and cancelled a couple of outings because of it including a family birthday dinner. Parents are in their 70’s so would rather not pass a virus to them even if it’s not Covid.

neverbeenskiing · 05/11/2022 09:09

It's down to the individual to decide how selfish they are as a person, legally if they don't give a damn about anyone but themselves they can carry on as normal.

It's not that simple. I work in a school and we have been told in no uncertain terms that we must still come into work if we test positive. In fact we have been actively discouraged from testing at all. Many workplaces are no longer supportive of people isolating, and people can't afford to risk their jobs or lose pay in the current financial climate.

But there is no requirement to test now?

or does your employer make you?

pyjamafashionista · 05/11/2022 09:54

I have literally no clue anymore what the rules are, they've changed so often!! Like any other "bug", if i don't feel well, I generally stay home until I feel better and try to stay away from others, but ultimately if I feel OK to work I would go in. I don't do tests anymore, very few people I know do either.

DratThatCat · 05/11/2022 10:46

If you happily come into contact with people (without wearing a mask etc) when you know you have covid, or think you might have it, you're a selfish prick.

I think those who are able to stay at home for 5 days or more without it having a significant impact on their finances need to recognise that they're in a position of privilege before declaring others "selfish pricks". Many employers will no longer support self-isolation, people cannot afford to lose pay or risk their livelihood and some jobs cannot be done from home. Blame the Government for removing the requirement to isolate before you blame individuals.

Did you not see where I said 'without wearing a mask etc'?

My post had nothing to do with those who have to go to work or they don't get paid.

DratThatCat · 05/11/2022 11:07

And since when do we rely on the government to tell us what the morally right thing to do is?

Mookie81 · 05/11/2022 13:38

What kind of twat tests for curiosity then questions whether to distance/isolate?
Everyone knows the damn rules by now (clue- there are no rules).
If you're in the position where you can be off work paid and have no urgent need to be around people stay away. Its bloody simple.

If I were going to test, which I have never done, and would never do, and were positive, I would ignore it. I have no interest in what the rules are.

If I felt too ill to go to work, I would not go to work - regardless of whether I had Covid or flu or D&V or anything else at all. If I didn't feel ill, I'd go to work. Pretty much the same as I did before Covid came along.

You sound fucking awful.

But it's ok for the people you've infected to lose pay and risk their job?

I have long thick curly hair. I’m chubby (thank you steroids) I have clear skin from the neck up, and rosy cheeks, I look the picture of health. Things you can’t see: My stoma, my Crohn’s disease, my Lung cancer. I would very much appreciate it if those who are able took the isolation route. Thank you.

We’re not forced to test but have been told not to come in if unwell at all. We get 12 days sick leave a year. Some of my colleagues have run out (I have loads saved).

Winter41 · 11/12/2022 19:06

You should isolate. People are still becoming very unwell and dying from this virus. If you cannot isolate for financial reasons etc you should only go out when absolutely necessary and in a good quality ffp2/3 mask. People are behaving very oddly with covid now laws have changed. I doubt many would have merrily gone out and about with contagious chicken pox etc. Pre pandemic and there weren't laws about that.

Greenfairydust · 11/12/2022 19:20

I had Covid 2 weeks ago.

I did have to go to the shops on day 4. I live alone and had run out of food/meds.

Not everyone has the luxury to isolate for 5 days if they don't have support.
