My dad is late 70s
Lived in housing association house all his life
He has money but is a skin flint
Had his cooker 50 years (no joke )
Today they did a gas safety check and they said it could be emitting carbon monoxide.
He said to me they said to him it was up to him if they capped it.
He refused and then told me it was fine.
Gas safety engineer just rang saying it must be capped or he is fined £800

I'm fuming with him honestly
He is in his right mind-he is just that tight with money.
I've ordered him a new electric cooker
He is angry at me
Currently waiting for gas man to cap cooker

Once that's done is he safe ?

Induction would be safest as it turns off if the pan boils dry..

@Auntieobem they've told him it's safer to switch to electric
Apparently they like tenants to be electric now

Have you seen the price of electricity vs gas 😅😅 he's not gonna have a choice but to spend money now.

Your dad is an absolute idiot but I would not be happy with you for ordering me an electric cooker when I like/am used to a gas one.

Electric cookers are recommend for elderly people because of the risk of leaving the gas on, etc

Cooking on electric, after a lifetime cooking with gas, will be awful for him. You should consider cancelling and getting a new gas one.

Cooking on anything that isn't 50 years old is probably going to be a an absolute joy for him. I can't imagine what sort of state a 50yo gas cooker is in!

Yes, once the gas is capped he’ll be safe. can he not freeze the mince, or if he doesn’t have a freezer can you not freeze it for him? Silly old bugger 😂

Yes - safe if it's capped off. He's just being silly - faulty gas appliances could kill him and his neighbours!
