Mortifying incident at work today - help!

OK, I'll have to be a little careful here in case it's outing. . .

Large Teams call today with whole department. At the end of the call, everyone starts saying bye and I'm sitting in the living room with my husband when I make a remark to him about the person leading the meeting (who just happens to be a senior leader . . .). What I said wasn't very polite, but not necessarily unpleasant. I said something along the lines of, 'politicians answers' and laughed a little.

Immediately I realise that I'm not on mute. I'm horrified.

DH thinks I can legitimately claim that this was not directed at the person speaking, but I think I need to own up.

WWYD:
YABU - Ignore and hope nobody has heard
YANBU - Own the faux pas, speak to the person I directed the comment at.

Please feel free to tell me your Teams indiscretions to make me feel better if you like!

Few years back I was on a small Teams call and we were doing that round robin thing where you take turns to give your updates. One colleague, while awaiting her turn, went to the loo and took her laptop with her....into the cubicle (she was in an office). Worse still, she had the camera facing her. I'll let you guess the rest. I'm just glad I was multitasking and not looking at the Teams screen at the critical moment.

I wouldn't say anything, but the fact that your husband can listen to your work meetings might land you in trouble

RTFR, or at least OP's posts. He works for the same company.

Minniem2020 · 01/11/2022 21:44

On a Teams managers meeting our area manager was running through our new campaign ready for our busiest time of the year. She paused before moving on to the next section and up pipes a voice saying "what a load of shit!"
The rest of us couldn't help but laugh, and to be fair he'd only said what we were all thinking.

Say nothing op, and hope no one mentions it.

Mangogogogo · 01/11/2022 21:53

I wouldn’t say a fucking peep to anyone unless they mentioned it.. then I’d say ‘yea I heard that too!!’

but then I’m extremely good at blagging things cos I cock up daily

I had a corker of a Zoom faux pas during lockdown. I'd forgotten that one of our corporate accounts, for some reason, joined you microphone on but camera off. Our big old Maine Coon was trundling around on my desk, trying to find somewhere annoying to sleep. So my first words in the meeting were "would you ever sit down, you hairy twat!"

Luckily it was with a team I knew well, who weren't going to clutch their pearls.

Sorry, not very helpful to your immediate situation, but hopefully it's given you a smile.

Howling at this! 😆

healthadvice123 · 01/11/2022 21:57

@toastedcat because its a breach of GDPR and your still supposed to be working in private even at home

healthadvice123 · 01/11/2022 22:01

@Buffypaws its not pearl clutching its a possible GDPR breach for many of us ,

healthadvice123 · 01/11/2022 22:03

@LaGioconda OP clearly says they do not work for the same company

trilbydoll · 01/11/2022 20:08

If anyone asks look surprised and say that you were answering something DH had said that was completely unrelated to work 😉

This. This. Just maintain total innocence about it. The person you directed your comment too really won’t want to get into a conversation about it. It is unfortunate but not the worst thing you could have said.

healthadvice123 · 01/11/2022 22:08

@toastedcat thats some of us anyway , I could not discuss or let others in my house hear my calls as we have to be careful with personal info, it was hard in lockdown was stuck in bedroom
Prob not so much a problem in some sectors maybe i suppose it depends what said heard and what job you do

ZealAndArdour · 01/11/2022 22:12

I was once on some teams training from home and absent mindedly picked up my vape and took a massive drag on camera.

I don’t think anyone saw, but I was mortified for ages, still am a bit.

LibbyL92 · 01/11/2022 22:14

Just ignore it! You aren’t the first and definitely won’t be the last!

Why on earth would that land her in trouble???

Blowyourowntrumpet · 01/11/2022 22:19

@LaGioconda RTFR, or at least OP's posts. She said "we both WFH, not for the same company"

Blowyourowntrumpet · 01/11/2022 22:20

OnABreeze · 01/11/2022 22:18

Why on earth would that land her in trouble???

It would where I work. GDPR

SunshineLoving · 01/11/2022 22:23

I would forget about it, honestly. No one knows for a fact who you were talking about. Just move on and learn from it.

Bruciebabyoh · 01/11/2022 22:23

The perils of working from home. If they don’t like it they can make sure working mandatory. But don’t worry they won’t as too much of a cushy number for many.

Bruciebabyoh · 01/11/2022 22:23

Site I mean

Macaroni1924 · 01/11/2022 22:28

@JustKeepSlimming this made my night, exactly the kind of thing my DH would do 😂😂

Unusually · 01/11/2022 22:29

On a singing course on Teams, I very loudly mimicked the teacher singing...before one of my kids pointed out I was unmuted. My camera was off but my name would have flashed up on the screen. I logged off immediately and said nothing about it.

Wigollia · 01/11/2022 22:32

Don’t worry it’s not as bad as the person who answered my call saying “ffs I meant to hang up on her and I’ve answered instead”…..that was a fun conversation.

HairyMcLarie · 01/11/2022 22:32

Could be worse. Whole company zoom call. One of our team was at home and on her way out to collect her kids. As we got near the end she said 'okay guys have to go now' and forgot to leave the call. We all watched in horror as she proceeded to get fully changed with the video and sound still on while she shouted to her husband "YES IM GOING NOW THOSE BLOODY OEOPLE WOULD NOT SHUT UP"

oofmehip · 01/11/2022 22:38

Ginger1982 · 01/11/2022 20:14

Yeah, why is your husband hanging about when you're on work calls?

Sorry, but I can only hear Moody Margaret’s voice in my head when I read this comment 😂

HelenWick · 01/11/2022 22:39

Def go with Matt Hanncock - don't mention it, if anyone brings it up say DH came in at the end and mentioned MH.

HelenWick · 01/11/2022 22:41

Very sensitive DD17 left herself of mute in a whole year discussion about A Level choices. She was enjoying a snacky picnic of cruchy breaksticks and carrots and the admin couldn't work out how to mute her so a massive picture of her in year 7 was centre screen for 5mins whilst she chowed down! Her friend rang her in the end. She was mortified and screams and runs off if it's mentioned 😂
