AIBU to think this was uncool...and should I say something?

NC because school mums are everywhere!!

DS recently started a new school and I'm in the school mum's Whatsapp group - I don't say much. A few other mums were complaining about a few issues with the school and I'd had the same issues with DS, so I outlined that I'd had the same/similar issues. After a few people had said similar pieces, one person subtley raised the idea of perhaps making a group comment on an issue and another responded that it's probably best for individuals to raise their own individual issues if they choose to do so - and a few others agreed.

Then, today, DH and I got an email from the school saying "I'm sorry to hear you weren't happy with [problem raised by other mum in the chat that we stated we also had an issue with]. Here's a clarification of the situation, here's a resolution etc". All very professional, all well-handled. It really wasn't a big problem and we wouldn't have raised it because, for us, it wasn't a big enough issue to warrant raising.

AIBU to think it's out of line for another parent in the whatsapp group to have contacted the school on our behalf, naming us as having complained or is that expected when you divulge information in the group chat? And, furthermore, should I say something in the group chat or just drop it? I don't want to make any enemies.

We just need ConcernedBF now

BooThereItIs · 01/11/2022 17:58

I'm also in the group chat and I would like to bring it to the schools attention that this all smells like BS.

Ta.

I'm in so many group chats at this point I think I probably am in this one. In seriousness OP no you're not being unreasonable.

I deal with complaints for work and often get people say 'Mr & Mrs X were behind us in the queue and said the same'. Well let Mr & Mrs X complain for themselves then, if they were that bothered. Bellend.

a very similar scenario happened in my parents WhatsApp group a year ago 😂 (not even trolling)

SuperCamp · 01/11/2022 18:02

However, I think most of us, in or out of the group chat, would agree that your name should not have been added to a class Class Action without your consent. However it would probably have been best to be explicit about that. If I hadn’t been deliberately excluded from the chat, I would have said’ thanks, it isn’t something I want to sign as a group’.

🙄

Mummbles · 01/11/2022 18:05

The issue isn't remotely a safeguarding issue so this definitely isn't the same scenario.

The way this trolls fingers must be flying across the keyboard to get these responses out before the banhammer falls on them!!

Deletions coming down the thread.

Sorry, MNHQ.

I'm the head of the school and can confirm we are all utterly fed up with these ridiculous groups!

Start a WhatsApp group to complain about it!

autienotnaughty · 01/11/2022 18:09

Op a serious answer, I would stay in the group for contact with parents (for birthdays etc) but don't comment about the school in a negative way. It could also get screen shotted and be put on social media which is against school policy.

Mummbles · 01/11/2022 18:09

I genuinely wasn't expecting this to be so dramatic and I missed what the first comment even said before it was deleted so I have no idea why everyone's getting frantic. Could someone fill me in?

Lots of joke posts pretending to be other members of the group chat.

Because you had said lots of other parents on MN.

I thought it was a given that there were lots of parents on mumsnet but apparently that's shocking news to some haha. Perhaps some mum's on here are a bit too buzzy from last night's Hallowe'en sweets.

hugefanofcheese · 01/11/2022 18:14

I've no idea what's going on 😂

If it's a genuine post, I would leave things. Don't say anything in the group. The matter is sorted and no harm done, but I wouldn't join in similar discussions in future. Just raise any issues separately with the school.
