as in 200g of soup

with bread and butter etc.

that's a normal size, right?

Friend heats a tin each for her family

I do a tin each
Half a tin is hardly anything

Minniem2020 · 01/11/2022 14:11

I'd have the whole tin, 2 slices of bread and butter then be hungry an hour later. Soup doesn't fill me for long at all.

Vikinga · 01/11/2022 14:11

I would say a whole tin of soup is one portion. I normally make homemade soup and a portion is about that size. And homemade soups tend to fill you up more too.

ArtixLynx · 01/11/2022 14:12

i'm a whole tin with 2 slices of toast girl as a main meal.

Half a tin is a snack.

They have them in limited flavours, chicken, tomato I think

I've just checked Tesco online and the only ones that are around 300g are Weight Watchers soups, which I'm not keen on, and Campbells condensed which obviously makes more than that once you add water. Maybe they just don't sell them where I live.

BirdsOfFeathers · 01/11/2022 14:17

You are both being unreasonable.

4 tins for 3 people, or 5/6 tins for 4. Obviously.

BirdsOfFeathers · 01/11/2022 14:19

Hang on, I got that the wrong way round. 3 tins for 4 people, or 4 tins for 5/6 people. What I wrote was plain greedy.

MichaelFabricantWig · 01/11/2022 14:20

Whole tin for me

In anticipation of the way this thread will go

Half a time AND bread and butter - OMG if I ate that I would be full for a WEEK - that's too much food - I eat a tin of soup over 4 days and no bread - I'm 5ft 4" and a size 2 - teeny tiny me

In the real work - a tin is fine per person ffs - it's soup not melted lard

😂😂 Brilliant!

GnomeDePlume · 01/11/2022 14:22

Never yet had any soup where I have thought 'I wonder if there is any more of that, it was delicious'.

Half a tin of soup would be plenty for me. Its sole purpose is to dampen the bread slightly.

Thursa · 01/11/2022 14:22

Half a tin of tomato soup, in a mug, with a cheese sandwich beside it.

IncompleteSenten · 01/11/2022 14:25

Well I suppose it is. The labels always say it is but no. A full tin fills my soup mug so I consider that a portion.

Half a tin as part of a larger meal then yes eg soup, bit of salad and a sandwich.

MavisChunch29 · 01/11/2022 14:26

Used to have that when I was a kid but now I find that tiny. Go by the calories and what you are having with it. If you aren't having a few hundred calories at least you are going to be hungry again in an hour.

Much nicer and so easy to make your own anyway, I haven't eaten tinned soup in 25 years! YANBU to have tinned soup 😆

Why have I never tried this!?

You really should try it. It’s delicious. You can even do cheesy garlic bread with it to make it more of a substantial meal.

Half a tin of soup is a tiny puddle

Exactly this. I have a whole tin if I am having soup (though I usually make my own as it's very easy).

I once complained in a cafe because they'd only given me half a bowl. It was about 5 mouthfuls! They did give me some more but weren't very happy about it.

homemade soup is delicious and I always have a pot on the go. I love it.

SheepDance · 01/11/2022 14:28

A standard tin fits perfectly in a normal sized bowl.
1/2 wouldn't be enough for me, soup hardly fills you up that much!

TurtleTriplets · 01/11/2022 14:30

It's a full tin here plus bread - no butter!

Oh no, @GnomeDePlume we can't have that

Try making this one, it's my favourite

You're right that veg plus water is unappetising, you need flavour and a bit of fat to make it good. Flavour could be roasted veg, herbs, spices etc. Fat could be peanut butter, meat stock, cream, milk, coconut milk etc. And enough salt. Just veg plus water is miserable, there are some really bad dieting recipes out there!

A whole tin? I wonder why the UK is one of the most overweight nations in the world.

I don’t think an extra 1/2 can of soup for a meal is the problem.

Notplayingball · 01/11/2022 14:32

One tin of soup. No bread though.

Creameggs223 · 01/11/2022 14:33

Half a tin and 2 slices of bread would not see me through from lunch to dinner I would end up snacking all afternoon and so would my dc.

dutysuite · 01/11/2022 14:34

Tinned soup is mostly water therefore I’d be very hungry very quickly if only eating half a tin.

U1sce · 01/11/2022 14:34

Its the same as cereal companies saying 30g of cereal is one portion - first of all, who said so? 30g of cereal is ridiculous and wouldnt fill a gnat up til lunch. Same with the soup.
