How to stop stomach grumbling?!

wildweather1 · 01/11/2022 12:10

I’ve got a very noisy stomach - it constantly growls and gurgles inbetween meals. I eat more than enough but even when I’m the slightest bit peckish, my stomach is like an orchestra! But embarrassing at work! Does anyone have any tips or recommendations of things I could quickly/easily eat or do when it starts getting noisy to stop it?

I always have a drink with me and something to suck on (polos etc) to help with this

or gum

I'll have a big drink of water to settle mine down. It seems to work for a while.

Mine is like this too-it’s dreadful. It’s not just my stomach, my intestines and bowel are at it too-it’s like a nosy wind machine.

I have never found anything that helps. I think I have pretty slow transit time with my digestion and prone to constipation, but if I try to up the fibre too much, get more wind!

It depends on why it's grumbling.

Are you getting enough healthy fats in your meals? If not then consider adding some, or a little dairy (yoghurt, piece of cheese, glass of milk).

Is it medical? Eg ibs?

I'd look at what you're eating and try peppermint tea or peppermint oil capsules to start with and then go from there.

There is no quick fix for this. You have a food intolerance and it can take being a detective to find the culprit. Try to find a gut health nutritional therapist who can help.

peppermint tea?

Be careful with peppermint tea. For some people, it can cause horrific reflux.
