For not having alternatives for trick or treaters?

Last night we had lots of kids trick or treating and was very busy answering the door. It was lovely to see all the different costumes and all the excited kids but at around 7pm we sat down to eat our tea so didn't want to be disturbed.

I decided to leave a bowl of mini haribo and squashems out next to the pumpkins and also inserted some lollipops into a pumpkin too. I figured that way the parents could see they were lollies and could decide if their kids were allowed them and also the younger kiddies had already been earlier on in the night.

Around 7.30pm there was a knock on the door and I answered to find a woman and her son stood on the doorstep. She said she knocked to tell me the bowl was empty! I was a bit taken aback and thanked her for letting me know and said her son was welcome to help himself to a lolly instead, it was at that point she said he wasn't really allowed lollies so she'd knocked for an alternative!!!!!

I explained there was no alternatives if the bowl was empty, and she stomped off in a huff. Even though my DC is too old to trick or treat we still put out pumpkins and welcome trick or treaters but surely, we're now not expected to have a never-ending supply of sweets!?!

She never said your name, let alone 'drag your name through the mud'.

But dramatic aren't you?

majorcamaiden · 01/11/2022 11:08

Anyone who has the balls to knock on the door after noticing the bowl of sweets is empty is an absolute nutter. Made even worse if there was a lolly and they just didn't want it. Absolutely pathetic and no manners. I feel sorry for her child seeing that and thinking behaviour like that is acceptable and potentially being passed down to the child. It just screams ungrateful and behaviour like that ruins Halloween for normal people and gives trick or treaters a bad name.

This is epic.

Knocking for an alternative 😂 Now I’ve heard everything

mummydoris2006 · 01/11/2022 11:08

Oh my please tell me I'm going to get a tooth breaker lolly and a bag of haribo through the post with a certificate of recognition from MNHQ for having my own personal troll on this thread 😂

Maybe take it off MN and go knock on her door to sort it out.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 01/11/2022 11:10

Is this one of those joke threads where an OP pretends to be two people? Or is someone pretending to be the other Mum? Bonkers

Talipesmum · 01/11/2022 11:10

This thread is bonkers! Babooooshka, if you’re a real poster, it’s entirely possible that you knocked on some other person’s house, not the OP - people running out of sweets, putting lollies in a pumpkin, having food etc are not likely to be exclusive to one house only in all the country!

majorcamaiden · 01/11/2022 11:11

It's annoying this post has already been reported and will likely be taken down. I would like to go make some popcorn and continue reading, but I worry it will be gone soon.

OP please do update us with a new thread if the nutter claiming to be the actual nutter who knocked on your door asking for an alternative returns to your house this evening and eggs it in retaliation of this post! 😂

I'm defo just one person but now a bit worried about returning home tonight! In all seriousness though the things the trolling poster was putting didn't actually ring true, my house had just two pumpkins as decorations, dinner to me is my midday meal and the bowl and lollies were on the doormat in plain view. Also there were still plenty left at the end of the night. I think the poster just wanted a rise out of us all.

I promise I will, although now I'm panicking that I'm meant to provide the eggs and may not have enough or alternatives 🤔

Did someonr claiming to be the lolly woman see this thread and comment? Is that what's happened?

AvocadoBat · 01/11/2022 11:28

YANBU. There will always be people like this and their children will learn to be the same from them. My daughter has allergies and simply says “thank you” for any candy and switches it out for something suitable when she comes home.

You should definitely have a vegan alternative. Could you have your house tofu'd?

ImustLearn2Cook · 01/11/2022 11:30

Wow! Is there a mumsnet record for so many deleted posts by the same poster on a thread that’s only 2 pages long!

NKFell · 01/11/2022 11:31

MN you absolute spoil sports!

bbnotwo · 01/11/2022 11:32

Damn it I was too late! 😂

@SpinningFloppa
I hope that wasn’t me! I did some satsumas with faces on because I thought they were cute, but I had plenty of sweets too!

Charliecatpaws · 01/11/2022 11:35

Funnily enough I was talkng to my neighbour this morning and he said that someone had knocked their door to tell them that the sweet bowl was empty!!
