To ask for your best psychological thriller or gritty books for me as I'm on 3 weeks bed rest

I'm starting 3 weeks bed rest and would love some recommendations for my kindle.

Love anything gritty, thriller, psychological.

Also love reading non fiction, people who have really interesting stories to tell for example I read the story of Jaycee Lee Dugard who tells her story of being abducted.

Thanks in advance x

Ah, have you read Educated by Tara Westover? It's a memoir about growing up in an abusive family dynamic in a Mormon community and breaking free.

Psychogical, how about Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier?

Sorry about your bedrest.

PinkRiceKrispies · 31/10/2022 22:20

I've read some great books by Karen Perry and Louise Jenson lately.
Also Clare Douglas is brilliant.

ItsNowOrNever · 31/10/2022 22:24

Anything by Sophie Hannah, she's a brilliant writer.

Hope you are better soon Flowers

applecatchers36 · 31/10/2022 22:30

I let you go by Claire Mackintosh, a creepy, tense, absorbing, thriller

SanFranBear · 31/10/2022 22:31

Henning Mankell is a brilliant author and his Kurt Wallendar series are excellent.

For non-fiction, Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand is a hard one to top - its the story of a USAF pilot during WWII and is a sotry of survival against all the odds... and I do mean, all of them! Inspiring!

Have you read any B A Paris novels. Not a difficult read. Also recently read a book called Lessins in Chemistry. Read in 3 days. Different. Very enjoyable. Doesn't fit into genres you mention but is a good read. Hope ur bed rest goes well.

Educated is excellent, what a difficult life she had. It would be a great choice.

Winterscomingagain · 31/10/2022 23:03

Peter James is excellent and the plots really do capture me. They'd be a great choice for bed rest.

Sorry about your bed rest, OP :( Hope you’re okay and that the bed rest goes by mercifully quickly!

A couple of suggestions:

  • Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (thriller)
  • Before I go to sleep - SJ Watson (also a thriller)
  • The girl on the train - Paula Hawkins (thriller)
  • Lady in Waiting by Anne Glenconner (autobiographical; she was the Queen’s lady in waiting)
Amarette · 31/10/2022 23:06

I know you asked for books but there's a new series on Netflix about unsolved mysteries that you might like.

Amarette · 31/10/2022 23:06

Think it's called Unsolved Mysteries!

Hai2012 · 31/10/2022 23:07

Rizzoli and Isles series by Tess Gerritsen. LOVE them

FairyLightAddict · 31/10/2022 23:15

Child A is brilliant.

If you like podcasts, Hoaxed and Sweet Bobby are gripping.

I'm not sure whether this qualifies but it had me gripped - American Dirt by Jeanne Cummins.
I grumbled about reading it for book club and then couldn't put it down.
